This is the second time I have bought this product. Followed every assembly direction and then the small plastic tips broke while on Step 4, where you are instructed to "carefully push the inner tube into the outer tube." There are no videos online to help with this step and both times I purchased this product, this is where the cheap plastic tips jammed and broke off.

Used this as a clue in an escape room for a birthday party, but it ended up breaking before they even put the code in. Total fail! It was a waste of money.

This is listed for 8+, and I got it for my 8 year old. We sat down together and carefully read the directions and practiced using it, and he was eventually able to do it all by himself. It was definitely not something I could just hand off to him. We actually put the code in backwards the first time that he tried to set his own combination, and had to start all over again. After our mistake, we learned how to do it properly and we finally got the hang of it.It's not a big safe, it's a tube inside that can hold a few small things. Think the tubes at the bank drive through. It also comes with an emergency key, in case you forget your combination.The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the numbers are strips of paper! Not even sturdy paper, it is very easy to tear. As a matter of fact, we have a small tear in ours just from disassembling it so that my son could set his own combination. If the numbers were a plastic dial, this would be 5 stars. Just remember to be gentle when you're switching numbers around.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Given the price-point of this item, you'd think this'd be almost hilariously cheap in design, but it's actually surprisingly well put-together, both in the quality of the materials used and how it's actually… well, put together. It legitimately impressed me.AESTHETIC QUALITY: Not a whole lot you necessarily need to say, though it does look frankly pretty neat in general, and I also appreciate the fact that the 'code-wheels' that are used for the puzzle itself are completely swappable with whatever you want; the instructions even have a website reference for a form you can print out to do so with the right form-factor.EASE OF USE: I have to admit that it took me a bit of reading, and re-reading, the instructions on this to figure out how to disassemble it, set the code-number, and put it back together again, though honestly that emphasizes that some actual thought went into the making on this, in my opinion. I also really liked the fact that the instructions also include a 'starter-guide' on who simple cryptography works, which helps further emphasize the quasi-educational nature of this.VALUE FOR MONEY: Quite frankly this is a pretty excellent price-point for something like this, especially given that the fairly robust construction and engineering setup.OVERALL RATING: For anyone in your life, young or old, who's interested in puzzle-based toys, this is a really solid bet.

This is a pretty fun little gimmick-y toy for kids. It says 8 and up, and I'd agree. Maybe 8-12 or so. It is fun to be able to change the code; just be gentle with it since the numbers are paper. At least you could replace it with your own paper if you needed to. There are so many code options, it would be extremely hard for someone else to guess and be able to get inside, although they could easily just take the whole thing with it being so small. Regardless; an 8 year old will probably be hiding it somewhere anyways if they actually put a special item inside. The tube inside doesn't hold much, but can take a sheet of paper or something else small. I like that there is an emergency key, too. When you put in the code, you can slide the 2 long pieces apart to get inside. The emergency key just pops the end off of one of the tubes. Overall it is a fun thing for kids, and for the current price of $14.99, I'd say it's worth it.
