I bought this for threading 3/4 inch pipe and it works great! Make sure you use thread cutting oil and your threads will be good. I like the case that this tool comes with to keep it all together. I should have bought this years ago. Very happy with it.

I bought this to chase threads on new 1-1/4" galvanized iron pipe that stopped a little short. It cracked threads on one and struggled on all, even with plenty of oil. Forget cutting new threads! I attempted to put threads on a piece of 1/2" PVC Schedule 40 pipe to avoid using an adapter where clearance was tight and it just chopped up the pipe and was incapable of cutting a full thread depth. The few threads that were cut would never seal. The ratchet seems fine, so maybe it would work with better quality teeth inserts. Or not.

Worked perfect. Saves a lot of money buying the shorter pipes and using extensions and couplers.

Nice kit, works well. patience required and proper cutting oil applied liberally.Cut a bit, back up to clear chips, lubricate and cut some more. Takes maybe ten minutes to thread one end of a 1" black pipe. Of course you need a pipe vise and bench or some way to hold the pipe from turning. Together with a pipe cutter or metal cut-off saw, gas fitting is simple. Two thumbs up!

I'm a do it your selfer when things look simple. So I needed to thread the a pipe end for a water supply. I had tried a regular 3/4" die but it just didn't work. I could not get it started or square on the pipe. So I bougt this set. Having never seen a real pipe cutting system before and when I opened it I was hoping for instructons. That means one of three things to me: One, it's for professional use only for people who are trained in pipe threading, Two, it is so easy a simpleton can use it (Me!), Three, they intend for me to break it so I'd have to buy another one. But after looking at it for a few moments and playing with the pieces, I decided this was something I could do.I clamped the pipe in a vise and selected the die for the size pipe (3/4") and put it in the ratchet, which at this point I didn't know was a ratchet, put the handle on the ratched and then turned it over and over trying to decide which end to put on the pipe. For some reason I decided to put the ratchet end on the pipe so the die teeth are facing out. I cranked on it and got a bite on the pipe and spun the die around the pipe. When I let go, I heard a distinct "click" as the ratchet allowed the handle to back up. OK...this big orange thing that holds my die is a ratchet. I noticed a chrome button with an arrow on it and I found this button reverses the ratchet to remove the die. Huh? Well, I remember reading somewhere that when using a die, one should go slowly and reverse the die and remove the cuttings about every 1/4 turn. So I would crank an then reverse and remove the die, wire brush the end of the pipe, blow the cutting off the threads, oil the pipe and start over. I eventually got bolder and would crank until it seemed to get really hard to turn and then I'd reverse and clean. After about 10-15 minutes I had a nicely threaded pipe ready for my faucet. So I consider this a "win". I learned some stuff and had a successful end. Instructions would have been nice but it is not impossible to figure out. I'd have given it five stars if it had instructions.

Bought it to thread several lengths of 3/4" black pipe and it did a reasonable job and held up. Decent buy for the money. Didn't use any of the other dies yet, so your mileage may vary.
