Worked for a month on Windows 11 then failed. 3 days after the cutoff date when I could return it. Junk, don't buy this.

I got this to allow Windows login on my new WD11 laptop. This is my first laptop without a fingerprint reader and so far it is great. I didn't have to load any software. I went to Windows Hello login after inserting it in a USB port, and voila, it was ready to go!

Excellent! Yes! Win 11. It installed very easily following Microsoft instructions. Note that this is model TE FPA3 which is a more recent design than TE FPA2 which is still available from the vendor. So, now I easily log in and unlock my password manager with it (after enabling that function in the password manager’s settings). But… what I want to say is this:With many computers it would be awkward to use the mini-reader unless you removed your fingers or thumbs to get one into proper position. Or perhaps you could do a headstand? Anyway that’s not necessary as it does not seem to be fussy about cabling. For setup, I plugged the reader directly into my win 11 computer and quite awkwardly set up 2 different thumbs (i.e. lefty and righty neither of which was very cooperative). It logged in perfectly. Then I shut down the computer, removed the reader and plugged it into the tail end of my spare parts jury rigged extension consisting of a 12” USB A male to USB C male (USB A end plugged into the computer), then came a USB C female to USB A male adapter, plugged into a 15 year old USB A female to female extender. Then came the reader. I was happy to see that the device still worked great. Then I set I up more fingers. Note that I didn’t get any of the USB Micro cabling stuff involved.

Overall this fingerprint reader works fine. It is fast and recognises fingerprints usually the first time. I have had to find the driver to get it working though. I found the driver at "tecnosite.co.jp" model "193 te fpa" at the very bottom of the page. Good luck. I do think sellers should state where to get drivers from and that is why 1 star is removed.

I bought two of these readers for my wife and myself. My PC runs Win11 Pro; hers is older, and runs Win10 Pro. Her installation went flawlessly, including the installation of the basic device and the fingerprint loading. My Windows 11 installation was ultimately successful, but had a couple of wrinkles: When I first plugged in the device, I got a dreaded 'yellow exclamation point' in Device Manager as an unknown device. I unplugged the reader and put it back into the same USB port; this time it was detected as a fingerprint reader, but still with the exclamation point. I went out to the Web to find some troubleshooting tips to try, and when I returned, the installation was complete and working -- even though I didn't do anything! On to the fingerprint programming: the first finger went smoothly, but I couldn't select another finger. I erased the first setting and started over. This time, everything went perfectly, and I now have five fingerprints stored. Again, no idea why the second attempt was better than the first. The reader works great with my password manager, and doesn't seem to mind a casual tap at a random angle. Overall I'm pleased, but the setup problems in Win11 keep me from giving the device 5 stars.

I recently purchased a high end PC and was disappointed that it had no fingerprint reader. This one was simple to set up and works perfectly with Windows 11 Home edition.

I have a gaming laptop without a fingerprint reader or windows hello camera. It also one of machines that suffers from a super annoying error that I haven't been able to find a solution for. It gives me an error when I try to wake it up from sleep mode, it won't accept the password. Tried all kinds of "solutions" with no luck, which from the number of posts and articles seems to be not uncommon. I have to shut it down and reboot. So I got this to save me having to type the password when starting up and being able to wake it up from sleep. Works great for the most part. It's quick, you can register multiple fingers which helps when you get a a mark on your finger (the index finger in particular) from working. It works fine 98% of the time, about 1 time in 50 it won't read, but I just have to pull it out the USB and plug it back in and then it works, not a big deal. So not perfect but not many things are. Computers are an endless source of errors and such, something is always going wrong. I just had to reset my wife's computer because it wouldn't boot and all the solutions wouldn't fix it. So had to reset and install a whole pile of windows updates, great way to spend a few hours. Sometimes it seems I spend as much time trying to get our computers fixed as I do using them.Anyway this thing works and I'd recommend it, it's small and works.

I had purchased an Arcanite fingerprint reader earlier and it was OK for most purposes but needed to be unplugged and replugged each time I booted up the computer. The TEC fingerprint reader works very well with Windows Hello and does not have to be unplugged at all. It auto-installed the drivers and was easy to set up with Windows Hello. It signs in blazing fast and works well with my Roboform password manager too. I am delighted with it.
