About this item

  • This is a well-made and economical marking/cutting gauge. A wheel larking gauge is an indispensable tool used in the shop to lay out precision woodworking joinery. This tool has excellent mass and weighs in at 6 ounces. This wheel marking gauge will provide years of accurate and reliable performance in the shop.
  • The sharp hardened high speed cutting wheel will leave a sharp and distinct line in soft and hardwood both with and across the grain.
  • The 1-9/16 inch diameter by 1-3/16 inch tall head is precision machined from solid brass (not plated!). The ergonomic brass head fits perfectly in the hand providing precise control. The knurled thumb screw is also solid brass and securely locks the head to the beam holding measurements. The head has a countersink so the cutter can be fully retracted protecting it when not in use.
  • The wheel cutter is 7/16 inch in diameter. The cuter can be easily resharpened by rubbing the flat surface in any sharpening media. Replacement cutter are also available.
  • The hardened steel beam is .310 inches in diameter and 8 inches long. Maximum cutting depth of the gauge is a full 7 inches. The beam is black chrome plated to protect against corrosion and to allow easier reading of the mm and SAE graduations. Graduations allow easy setting of the gauge and extend to 150 mm or 6 inches.

The gauge is easy to adjust and sharp out of the box. I don't use the measuring markers so that was neither here nor there. The reference face is a little small compared to Veritas gauge but I'm sure that was a cost issue in manufacturing. Overall very happy with the purchase.

My gauge arrived ready to use. The cutting wheel is sharp and easily scored lines in pine, oak and walnut. The fence is square, and the entire piece is well finished and solidly built. The only improvement I'd like to see would be maybe and extra cutter in the package.

I was really surprised with this tool, for the price its actually pretty hefty. Comes with extra cutters and is easy to read. One of the rare cases of you actually get what you pay for.

Good performance for the money. Great value. Not as nice as the Veritas model I already own but less than 1/2 the price. Good utilitarian tool and a solid value.

This is an excellent marking guage. It does have a learning curve if like me you have never used one before. The only thing I had to do was tighten the screw holding the cutter so that it doesn't spin.

I bought this gauge because I needed another gauge that was better than the cheaper WR one that I have. I bought this and took it out to the shop to give it a go.First impressions: it feels good in the hand. I set it up and marked out a tenon. It cut nicely and it didn't slip.I thought that the lines might be painted on. Took a knife to one to see and couldn't scrape it off. Couldn't really scrape the black japanning/paint off either. I'm sure it will wear over time but to be honest, I don't depend on lines on my marking gauge. My Veritas doesn't have any lines.Just to check, I took the knife to the WR gauge and the black and gold paint scraped right off without even trying. The wr was $7 more too. Tsk.This gauge has a flat head so I can drop in on something to get a precise measurement. Unlike that stupid wr.All in all, I'm giving this a thumbs up and I will probably buy another one to have on hand.
