I am a wedding videographer and Im a big fan of these. They've survived many many drunk wedding guests, drops, spills and more. I was never the type to trust auto leveling features but I tried it and it has never let me down. The dual recording featuresare a must have. They can record for ages without needing more batteries or more storage. Best audio quality in my kit. I have both the newer versions and the older ones and they both just work great 100% of the time. Just surprisingly reliable.

This device is a brillant piece of gear? It is my main sound device when it comes to weddings or other events. You turn it on and leave it. thanks to the limiter and auto level, it will record all detailed sound thanks to their very good quality cavalier mic which comes along.I've got 2 of these and they are my trustee sound recorders.

If you are running a professional video production, the Tascam DR-10L should not be your primary audio source because not monitoring your audio for the duration of an interview is highly unwise to say the least. If you are a videographer who does high end commercial type video and you want to have high quality audio, you should definitely have as many options at your disposal as possible. Namely, you should have a quality sound mixer with a boom mic. Boom audio, when engineered correctly is beneficial for so many reasons. Secondly, miking your interview subject is crucial bc you simply need crystal clear audio with little to no noise. That is why a decent wireless mic kit is crucial. All that said, let me tell you why this is such an outstanding mic option when it comes to wedding video. I have shot hundreds of weddings. It doesn’t matter how good you are, they are stressful and no one anywhere will disagree. Few aspects are as stressful when it comes to one’s audio. You are in an unfamiliar environment, you are recording audio from multiple individuals and most likely room sound/music, and you are there to shoot video so your priority is already so devoted just to that. For years, I used many wireless RF lav mic kits and varying levels of success. So many scenarios are at play. Interference from other nearby RF systems and potentially hundreds of smartphones all around you. The subject walks far enough away and the signal potentially gets lost. Perhaps worst of all, when something does go wrong, your audio is ruined bc you cannot interrupt the event to fix said issue. While most of my shoots have been successful, I can’t tell you how terrible it is scrambling and panicking that half of your shoot’s importance is in the toilet. Unexplained noise, drops in signal, it is a living nightmare. So, my recommendation for ensuring flawless audio for wedding video shoot is 2 fold: clip a DR-10L on your groom and your officiant and hit record. It is literally set and forget. Secondly, use something like a Tascam DR-40 or Zoom H6 plugged into the PA system or placed it in front of a loudspeaker. At the very least this gives you nice, clean master audio (line feed is most ideal). The nicest thing about going this route is you don’t experience any audio-related stress and you can focus entirely on your video.

I bought 2 of these a little more than a year ago and have been using them every week since. The audio quality is great and the battery usage is amazing! I did a lot of research before buying (as I do with all my equipment) and I read the user manual so I know the ins-and-outs of the equipment.Since the audio data gets picked up in the mic and recorded in the mic pack, they are amazingly convenient! I have mine set up to limit, auto-adjust the levels and record an additional track at -6dB to ensure I always have a non-peaking track of usable audio. It's fantastic! So I do a sound check before recording, then I start them up and let them do their thing. The ONLY downside with these are that the audio drifts over time. It's pretty noticeable if you are using 2 at once. If you have everything sync'd up at the start of your video they will slowly drift and de-sync themselves over time. The longer the video- the worse it gets.I conducted multiple 30-minute audio/visual tests to see how bad the two devices drifted from one another and not only did they both drift from the camera body audio but one of the LAVs I bought drifts TWICE as much as the other. On average, it is about 8 minutes into a video when my on-screen-personalities begin to have a robotic echo.I tried a multitude of things to try to solve the problem including trying out multiple microSD cards in hopes that the device would be able to write data on certain cards faster and therefore negate the problem and it did help, but it did not solve the problem. After contacting Tascam, I was told the drift is because the mics are not connected to a singular external recording device that has a calibrated timer on it which would regulate both the devices- that since the 2 devices are running independently, the timers are not going to line up while recording and therefore the audio will not line up perfectly. This is due to there being "no way to calibrate the timers to match perfectly without it being connected to another device," I'm not sure how true this is but that is what I was told.To solve the problem, it basically means slating A LOT during recording so you can re-sync the piece multiple times. They really shine when the you're recording in short bursts. They are not impossible to use for longer-form content (and I'd imagine they're very convenient for weddings) but just know this will be your primary headache when using them. I still recommend them, but I never leave out the warning!

Discounted and it still works very well! The audio quality grand. And it's light, slim enough I can conseal it beneath clothes- the added hook for the mic itself is sturdy and holds well.

Glad I decided on getting this mic! I'm a video producer for a local production company so I work with audio for our interviews all the time. But recently I decided to create a personal documentary, and I knew I needed audio that was small, easy, dependable, and quick for on-the-fly recording. This was just that.I love its size. Very easy to slip in a pocket and carry around. The instructions and menu features are so simple, even a beginner could figure it out in minutes. I loved not having to worry about interference or switching channels. Once I check my volume settings, I can just hit record and not have to worry about anything. While I'm sure there are other mics that could do the same job, this one was perfect for any spur-of-the-moment interviews I had on the street. I've only used it a handful of times now, but so far I really am pleased.
