I saw an idea on Instagram and decided to decorate one for each of my grandsons.

I love these little mailboxes. I bought a set exactly like this at Target 12 years ago. I took them to my Mom's house so my 2 granddaughters could play with them. They lived in Massachusetts and West Virginia. So every 6 weeks to 2 months we would get together at their great-grandmother's house. I would buy little gifts to put in the mailboxes. Crayons and sheets from a coloring book. Hershey's kisses (chocolate candy). Mini bags of potato chips. Little toys. Just one gift for each day we were there. Then at some point in the day I would say, "Hey. Did the mailman come?" And they would run to the coffee table to check. They were always thrilled with whatever the mailman left them. My mom passed away a year ago. This year for Christmas, we got together at my son's house in West Virginia. My oldest granddaughter came in from Amsterdam. Her birthday is in February. So for her birthday present, I wrapped up the little red mailbox. I put a Visa gift card in it. When she unwrapped her present, she jumped up in the air squealing. She kissed the mailbox, jumping up and down, held the mailbox to her heart and started to cry. She said, "Oh Grammy. You remembered." Out of all the Christmas presents she had just gotten, this birthday present, this little red mailbox, was her most precious gift. She turned 20 years old one week later.

I bought these for my 6 and 8 year old grandchildren. The thought was that we could be penpals (we don't live in the same town) and they could put letters in them to me, raise the flag, and Mommy or Daddy would know they need to be sent -- and vice versa, that Mom or Dad could put my letters to them in the boxes outside their bedroom doors and raise the flag when they got real mail. We have always made our own mailboxes (from Amazon boxes!) with little flags so they know how mailboxes work. These would be fun for playing mail too.

They are fine and will work for what I need them for but they arrived dented. The box is fine but the material these are made from are cheap and easy to dent. I tried to push the dents out but it didn’t work at all. Such a bummer.

We are redoing our kids playhouse and these mailboxes were the perfect touch, the kids are so excited to get mail now that we will be doing fake letters and postcards for sure!
