I had high hopes, but this thing is comically skinny, I've never seen a powder horn like this before. I guess they ran out of big horns to use. (dollar for scale)No matter, it's still quality-made. I've bought a few items from SZCO in the past and they've usually been pretty decent, especially for the price. It's still usable, although I'm going to put a longer strap on it, the one that's on there is real short and is the type you'd use to hang from a possibles bag.I won't be sending it back, because it's just not worth it, and its just too funny to look at!

I recently volunteered for my college for Pioneer Days and I got this to use for my Mountain Man costume. I am in Museum Studies as my minor and it was my first time time doing a costume like this. This is a good thing to have since it was something that they carried around. I love the feel and look. It is perfect for anyone who does living history and reenactments. It was my first time doing this sort of thing but this piece made it work. I will be doing more with our Pioneer Days that we have at a local Log Cabin in the near future. I enjoy this piece; nice and light weight.

Absolutely USELESS for black powder (it is advertised as a 'Powder Horn')! DON'T waste your money. Tag on item clearly states it is a drinking flask. The opening is 1/4" and the 'large' end is not quite 2" in diameter! Good luck getting powder in or out.

Description says you can put black powder in it, clearly you cannot, the cap is glued on and the end is filled in. It is great as a costume accessory however, super good quality. So, 0 stars for black powder horn, 5 stars for prop.

This arrived quickly and was so much nicer than I even expected! It had beautiful rich colors and came with a leather strap holder. I bought this to go in an Easter basket for my 6 yr old grandson, with a wooden cork/pop gun and a book on Davey Crocket. He loved it!! I highly recommend this powder horn as a part of a costume or just to play with or to use as an actual powder horn, if you've got a black powder gun. Nothing fake here; all genuine elements. Wonderful product and I'm 100% happy with my purchase.

I bought this to use with my replica 1768 .75 cal flintlock. Excellent value for the money. Needed some tweaking to be a viable powder horn, but was mostly finished. Strap is surprisingly strong but still needed replacing. Needed sealing and waterproofing, plugs needed minor work. I bought two and cut one down for a priming horn. All in all a fantastic buy for the money. If you intend to fill it with powder, be prepared to do a little work. If just for reenacting, rendezvous, cosplay, etc. , it would be perfect as is. Highly recommended, either way.

I bought this to delight a certain little boy, my son, who LOVES to march about in his authentic Colonial civilian overcoat, waistcoat and tricorn hat, looking just like a little Minute Man. When presented with this powder horn, his buttons just about popped off his coat. He loves it and has worn it to historic forts and plans to wear it in full Colonial glory at Williamsburg next spring. The wood fittings are snug, and the carving, while very primitive, is in line with the home-made jobs from the 1700s. The one quibble I have is that the strap seems a little delicate, but if I ever feel the need I can easily replace it with a more substantial leather strap, and after all he is not planning on wearing it in the Battle of Lexington. The strap is a good size for a 6-year-old to sling across his chest.I compared this horn to one where we buy our hand-crafted reproduction clothing and goods. Although much more substantial, with more carving and a lovely strap similar to thinner horse reins, it is 4x the cost. So the horn on Amazon is good value, keeping in mind that you will want to make some adaptations if you use it for black powder in the field.

I have been looking at powder horns for several years, to add to my black powder collection. What I have observed is high price and low quality. The powder horn that I ordered from this seller was very low priced and is exceptional quality. I bought it with the intent of taking it to the range, but after looking at it I didn't want to damage it. The horn is decorated and it will be a nice piece for my wall. I would recommend this seller and I plan on purchasing from them in the future.
