Running the powerful Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, it is ideal for data backup, sharing, and synchronization. Its small size, stable performance, and storage scalability makes it suitable for branch offices and small and medium-sized businesses with everincreasing data management needs.

This is for a client, replacing 2015 Mac mini server. Nice & fast. I love Synology.

I got this storage server primarily as a video server. I run Emby server on it and it just runs. It was also easy to setup and runs quiet.

Pricy but well built although SSD support requires another pricy add on card from Synology. Otherwise works well and feels really fast with files downloads and uploads to the NAS. Recommend

Synology’s Own Apps Don’t Work With DSM 7’s “modern” security selected. One of the reasons I went with Synology was their supposedly superior software. Surveillance station's functionality was severely hampered with the recent update to DSM 7.2.2 (removed h.265 codec support). DS Video has not been updated in two years and will not work if the NAS security is set to modern. DS video has other interface and CODEC issues, but it is pathetic that Synology hasn’t even updated the ciphers used in its software so that “modern” security cannot be used on Synology’s NAS. Now Synology is deleting applications and core functionality (h.265 codec support) for "performance." Never buying another Synology. The whole point of paying a premium for Synology is their software, not their years old sub-par hardware. Synology removing h.265 support over a ~$1 per device license fee is unacceptable.Turning to Synology photos, despite 30,000+ images, the AI only recognized the subjects in less than 500 photos, and then much of the recognition was wrong. It did much better with faces, but leaves much room for improvement.

I 1st ordered a QNAP - spent 5 frustrated days with it and returned it.I should have spent the extra and got this.In comparison to QNAP, this is FAST. The UI isn't super sluggish, it's fast and responsive.I was worried it's only 2GB RAM but so far this has not been a problem.I'm running various additional services, like Plex, and its no hassle.Running 4x10TB 4KN 7200RPM drives in RAID5.

I got an extra 16GB stick (plus the 2GB it comes with, 18GB total, which is overkill, but 2GB is not enough....)Plus a 10GB NIC (Synology brand, it was in the same price ballpark as a generic intel-branded NIC)I use this for system backups on my home network (VMWare VMs, Raspberry PI images, PCs...) and it's working great.
