This is wonderful! I thought portable pet scanners would be prohibitively expensive. I know Amazon reviews are not supposed to talk about the price, but in this case that made the difference between buying and not buying it. I keep it in my car so next time I encounter a cat that is very friendly or a dog who is obviously lost, I can gets its chip information before trying to transport it to a vet.

I don’t have a pet myself, but I gave it to my friend as a birthday gift, and he really likes it, so I assume it works great.

No screen protector.Given these are usually put in pocket and other 'rough' areas when used, it would have been nice to have a sleeve or screen protector

It does its job, once you get past the quirks. The basics are solid. It reads chips like it's supposed to, and reports its findings through USB cable, wireless USB dongle, and Bluetooth. It works with every device and OS, because it imitates a keyboard (with one exception, detailed below). Okay, I can't personally vouch for all possible chip reading, because I only have two cats and they have the same model chip, but this device reads the same ID number shown on the animal shelter paperwork. The quirks are why I deducted a star. The user interface is odd; there's no indication that you can scroll off the bottom of the screen, but you can, and you will need to. The interface was not translated by a fully fluent native speaker: there is a command to control whether time is listed before or after the chip ID number (or not at all), but it's called "Prifix Suffix". Those are annoying, but I can't call them outright failures. The outright failure is in the USB cable support. The device has a USB-C port, and comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable, which works perfectly well. In fact, every A-C cable I tried worked just fine. The failure hits USB-C to USB-C cables; every one I tried failed completely. I happened to already have a USB-C to USB-A (male) cable and a USB-C to USB-A (female) cable; putting those together worked just fine. That could be typical, for all I know, but I make no promises.

I'll buy another one in the near future, but this worked super well when it didn't freeze on me. It saves the numbers, was easily able to find both shelter pups' chips. Stores that info in the machine so you can punch it into a dog finder site and get info on the owner that way.We get a lot of stray and loose dogs by me (including my two pups), after an incident with my neighbor, prompted me to buy this. I was expecting these to be expensive, wasn't expecting to get such a full featured one like this for next to nothing. As for the incident with the neighbor's dog; his dog escaped his house, didn't know whose it was, she had massive "I just gave birth" milkers, and ended up calling the cops on it. Sweet girl, my dogs enjoyed playing with her, but then I was like, CRUD, dog's are due for a flea and tick update, this dog could be infected if stray. So, hence why I called the cops to pick her up. She was a Yellow Lab and apparently my neighbor breeds them, and being a SOUTHERNER (I'm from Chicago, so a huge bit of culture shock moving down here) they're super big into dog breeding and cross breeding. She was cross breeding with a Catahoula (a breed I knew NOTHING ABOUT), adorable pups. Which I suspect my one shelter pup was a product of since he's PERFECTLY 50/50 American Foxhound/Catahoula.ANYWAYS, this was working great, weirdly good quality IPS screen, unnecessarily in color, a lot of connection options I never used, and like the 3rd scan it froze on me, wouldn't turn off, wouldn't do anything. Held that power button down for a good minute. NOTHING. The problem is, this is such a low power device that even with ONE 18650 cell it would take probably a day to kill that battery. So, I just returned it.It doesn't feel cheap, super intuitive to use, I really liked it, will probably buy again from a different company since this totally is one of those products on Amazon where there's literally 100 clones of carrying slightly different chinese names.

I have scanned several stray cats and only one had a microchip. The display shows the functions available by progressing through the list with the up and down arrow keys. This product is totally worth its price.

Great little device that found my dogs' microchips within a second of hovering it over their necks. Arrived charged to 3/4 and ready to use. Customizable features include *volume control* (can be turned to silent for those worried about it startling their pets), screen brightness, and date.Connects to your computer via USB or Bluetooth dongle (both included) so you can save your scans to your system. Charging cable is USB-C. I was worried that it wouldn't recognize my one dog's chip because it's an AVID microchip (a 15-digit one), but it had no problem. My other dog was microchipped in Spain and it had no trouble finding it.I spent an hour researching / deciding which device to buy and am happy with my purchase.

The scanner I received seemed to be used. It had scratches all over the screen. To add to that, there were previous pets scanned in the view before I scanned my pup. The packaging was cracked and it was definitely not new.In the photos describing the scanner, one of them shows that it connect via blue tooth, showing a mobile phone and tablet. This scanner does NOT connect to your mobile phone or tablet, only to a PC via software that they have to email you. This was confirmed by the seller. My PC did not like the zip attachment that was emailed to me and refused to download it.On all these points, I have to return it.

This microchip reader works really well. It helped in identifying my litter of puppies that were near look-alikes. I used AKC microchips on the litter, and it read them easily. It also detected microchips in my older dogs that had an other brand of microchips. I do not use avid microchips, so it wasn’t a problem that it does not read that chip. It was able to detect microchips fast in all of my dogs. It is very small and fits in a purse or pocket. If you do not have 20/20 eye site, you may need a magnifying glass, as the numbers are small. I am glad I bought this product instead of the overpriced ones for sale by AKC and other microchip manufacturers.
