As a durable precision tool, the Swordfish Curve Mechanical, manually operated Sharpener has a sharp helical blade housed inside a high-quality plastic chamber. The Swordfish Curve has signature curves and combines modern design with solid engineering and with a high capacity shavings tray is suitable for use in the home, office at school or college.

The Swordfish Curve Mechanical Sharpener has an extendable front plate that holds the pencil securely and will ‘auto-stop’ when the pencil becomes sharp to prevent over-sharpening, minimising wastage. The Curve is perfect for all standard 8mm and up to large 12mm diameter pencils and comes complete with a desk clamp for added stability. The desk clamp is perfect for a classroom or workshop environment as it ensures the sharpener is kept safely and securely in one place

The Swordfish Curve Mechanical Sharpener is suitable for all standard 8mm and up to 12mm diameter pencils and gives excellent results with Graphite, Charcoal and Crayon. It is a manually operated Sharpener and will sharpen a pencil to a 20 degree point and take only 15 revolutions to sharpen to a pinpoint. The Swordfish Curve also has a handy ‘Pencil Point’ option for a rounded or sharp pencil tip/point. The sturdy plastic shavings tray has a capacity of 50 pencils worth of sharpening shavings. The unit weighs only 388g and measures 110 x 100 x 132mm.

As with most sharpeners the helical blade may, over time, become blunt but you won’t need to change the sharpener as replacement blades are available, ensuring many years of use - Swordfish product ref: 40807

I have many different colored pencil brands and many different sharpener brands, handheld and electric. From the beginning, I really wanted the Swordfish electric but it was pricey so I decided to save money on a cheaper electric brand. Bad decision! The first one I bought was when I was just starting with colored pencils and didn’t realize I would later have larger diameter pencils such as Caran d’Ache Luminance or Derwent Artist pencils. They didn’t fit. The second sharpened all of the diameters but ate half of my expensive pencils. By then, I could almost have paid for the Swordfish. So when Bonny Snowden recommended this one, I ordered it right away. Yes, it’s manual, which is a bit of a pain, but oh, the points! You have a choice of short or long, and it barely grinds away any of your pencil. As a further bonus, the little clamp, that holds the pencil in position, is coated with rubber or silicone, and does not leave bite marks on your beautiful pencils. I highly recommend this to anyone on a budget or where a non-electric sharpener would better fit their needs. Still saving my pennies for the electric Swordfish but this will serve beautifully in the meantime.

I have finally found an exceptional pencil sharpener from England called Swordfish. It sharpens them to a sharp point without breaking them! Love it!

Already have a Swordfish sharpener to sharpen my pastel pencils but this one accommodates various sizes of pastel pencils. Should have bought this one in the first place. Highly recommend them for pastel pencils as long as you use an ordinary lead pencil in between to keep blades better. Lots of my art group now have one as impressed with the points I can get on my pastels for detail work

Love this sharpener for my pastel pencils. It only shaves a little amount off pencil for a sharp point and is saving a lot of the pencil. I have found in the past sharpeners I purchased, and they were a lot, when I sharpen both colored and pastel pencils in the same sharpener it is not good as it prevented blades and pencils not to last too long. I don't know if this sharpener would be different using it for both pencils but this sharpener works so good for my soft pastels I don't want to chance ruining the blade like that. I use Afmat electric sharpener for my colored pencils on setting 2 and it is wonderful for the colored pencils

At first this Swordfish sharpener was amazing but then after several (less than 20 uses) it would no longer sharpen to a point. I tried several different types of pencils, colored, graphite and charcoal and it still wouldn't sharpen to more than a dull point. Also, it's kind of tricky to use since you have to extend the front plate out, insert the pencil properly and pray that it doesn't eat your pencil. I had such high expectations too. Requested a refund already and will be purchasing a manual RedWing sharpener for long points.

LOVE THIS! use it for art pencils - charcoal, watercolor, pastel, drawing, standard girth and fat ones like Conte. yes, some pencil tips break - not the sharpener's fault. if a lead is cracked inside the pencil - from dropping it, from rough handling with shipping - ANY sharpener, from a razor blade to a handheld to a fully mechanical - will not be a able to cure a cracked lead. as an artist with arthritic hands, anything that alleviates having to grip something with great strength and dexterity (specifically like sharpening pencils by hand with any razor-based technique or tool) is no longer an option. This swordfish model easily accommodates all the pencil sizes and mediums i use. Based on a very informative youtube video, i use a full width graphite pencil (as in no wood - just a graphite stick with a lacquer coating - does not need to be artist quality - just pure graphite)) about every 10th pencil. According to the well known artist & teacher of said videos, the manufacturer uses graphite as a lubricant. Adjustable to different pencil points with the small knob on the handle - very useful with different mediums and different drawing techniques. i do not aggressively crank down on the pencils. gentle turning and patience yields exactly the results i am looking for.

After spending a little more time with this sharpener, I have to say I love it. My pencils have not broken or cracked. The tips are nice and sharp( once I found out how to adjust it). I had to watch a video to see how to adjust the sharpener for a fine point or rounded. It really works great!

I'm revising my review. I was given a full refund by the seller. I give the seller 5-stars. If the sharpener had continued to work as well as it did the first few months I would give it 5-stars too. I'll split the difference and change my one star to three. My original review: I received this product a few weeks ago after reading rave reviews by others pastel pencil artists. It worked beautifully until yesterday. Now it grinds off the pencil tips rather than sharpening them. I'm so disappointed!

The last few months I have been on a search for a pencil sharpener to sharpen colored pencils, watercolor pencils and charcoal pencils. I've tried electric sharpeners and other manual sharpeners. I've returned all of them. The Swordfish "Curve" finally solved the problem and it sharpens pencils of various diameters. It did take some time to finally figure out how to get the exact long-point that I wanted but now I can get the same result every time. It doesn't break the points (unless the pencil itself has an issue). In the process of figuring out how to get good results I started by sharpening all the #2 yellow pencils that we had around the house. After I could see what was going to happen with the different settings I started on some of my less expensive colored pencils. The colored pencils seem to sharpen a little differently than a regular graphite pencil - I guess because they are so soft. I now use this sharpener on all my colored, pastel and charcoal pencils and get great results. On the occasion I can't get the really sharp point on some of the softer pencils I just use a little piece of fine sandpaper to tune the tip (a minor inconvenience considering how good this sharpener performs).Actually I didn't return ALL the sharpeners I bought. I did keep the Derwent Battery Operated Pencil Sharpener (about $12). It does a nice job on my colored pencils, it's small and light, and I can take it with me when I'm not working at home. It doesn't seem too sturdy but for $12 I'll use it until it quits.
