About this item

  • ICONIC METAL STAPLER – Bold Rio Red stapler with all-metal construction is designed for durability. A specially crafted inner rail delivers jam-resistant, accurate stapling you can count on.
  • DESIGNED FOR DESKTOP – The 747 stapler is intended for desktop use. It holds a full strip of 210 staples. The helpful low-staple indicator lets you know when it's time for a refill.
  • SECURES 30 SHEETS – This high-performing stapler fastens up to 30 sheets of paper and works best with standard Swingline S.F. 4 Premium Staples. Standard staples have 1/4" length legs.
  • TACKING & PINNING – Tack papers to bulletin boards with ease: unlatch the stapler and you're ready. The stapler can also produce pointed staples for temporary pinning: just reverse the anvil.
  • BUILT TO LAST – Swingline stands behind this classy stapler with a 100% performance guarantee and a limited lifetime warranty.

America’s #1 manual desktop stapler is simple, accurate, reliable and strong. Metal construction, inner rail and positive locking latch makes this stapler especially durable, minimizes jamming and keeps staples aligned. The 747 model staples 30 sheets at a time and opens flat for tacking ability to post papers instantly to a bulletin board or similar tackable surface. This stapler also has a reversible anvil for pinning. By turning the anvil you can create a pin staple with legs that point out so it can be removed without a staple remover, and without ripping papers. Backed by a limited lifetime warranty and 100% Performance Guarantee when used with Swingline Premium Staples.

I love swingline staplers, they are sturdy, durable. This red color also makes it easy to find it!

Perfect stapler! Gone through many cheap ones, this one will probably be the last that I have to purchase. Opens easily for small pamphlet binding.

Just heavy enough to do the job but light enough that it’s not annoying. Super cool looking. The best working staplers I can find. Hasn’t jammed once.

My archeology prof Jim Judge told us about his son Mike, and we laughed when he asked about his son's show "Beavis and Butt-Head" and this thing reminds of that day in 1992. Thanks Jim and Mike. I bought rose colored staples, and the thing works great. High quality!

The stapler is heavy for its size. And it's goods.Whether it bends the paper or not, I don't know. I wish they would add at least 2-3 staples to test the product out.But the product itself is well-build. I have always wanted it as an avid fan of Office Space.

My stapler walked off somewhere, so I replaced it with this one. It is a heavy duty standard stapler that works well. Hopefully the red color will make it easier to find if this one walks off. I am very pleased with the quality and design.

I ordered this to replace my stapler that stopped working. I like the new button feature to open the stapler. Very durable and perfect for the office. I also love the color choices. Holds normal staple size

I got one of these for my wife for Christmas mostly as a joke because she's been working from home ever since the whole lockdown thing started, and I thought it would brighten up her workspace. She had a crummy stapler, and we had bought her a new one to replace it at a local chain store a while back. And I hadn't heard any complaints, so really the red Swingline was intended as a humorous gift. However, once she started using it, she thanked me profusely because as it turns out, the other new stapler we'd bought for her was not nearly as good. And unbeknownst to me, she disliked it and was having trouble with it. So this new red Swingline was not just a joke, it was a fantastic upgrade for her.The things that make this stapler functionally better than many staplers are:It's easy to load. The top-loading mechanism is fast and sure. You don't have to fumble with it.The stapling is positive and sure. It will staple through a thicker stack of sheets than many other staplers can handle.Lower force required to staple something.Smooth, well-shaped top that is comfortable for your hand when you want to really try stapling something thick! The surface of the plate that goes below the paper, and which intercepts the tips of the staples and directs them into the curved shape is very hard and smooth. And the shapes of the depressions that bend the staples over are well-designed.This seems like a trivial characteristic, but it's vital. With the shapes of these indentations being "correct", and the surface being very hard and smooth, the staples do not dig into the metal plate. Instead, they are smoothly deflected and then guided around to form the back of the finished staple.Staples need to have sharp points to penetrate the paper easily, but then those sharp points will try to dig into that bottom plate. So it is important that the points intersect with the depressions at an angle that causes them to glance off easily to begin the bending, and not try to dig into the metal. And of course, that surface must be extremely hard so that the points don't dig in or cause the smooth surface to wear or erode. The result of this being well-designed and made of good materials is that the stapling process is much smoother, with less friction, and far less tendency for the staple to bend improperly and crumple rather than form a proper finished staple shape. This seems trivial, but it is not. This stapler staples easily through more sheets, and doesn't cause the staples to fail the way a lower-quality stapler is prone to do. And it should last longer. So while the red Swingline is a humorous meme or icon, the fact is that this truly is a first-rate stapler. No wonder Milton did not want to give up his red Swingline!

Exactly what I was looking for! Super heavy, sturdy, feels satisfying to use and heavy duty. It won't budge from your desktop. Oh yeah, and sooooo shiny! It was immediately popular at work and I quickly purchased another one for at home. I'm grateful this product exists because it's surprisingly hard to find a stapler that is even at least $5 a piece! You get what you pay for. It may sound silly, but I do genuinely appreciate it when I can pay more money in exchange for a higher quality product.I don't know how this stapler will fair over time, yet. If it breaks at some point in the near future I'll try to remember to update this review! While I'm not going to use it so much at home, its true durability will be tested at my job where the stapler is going to be used every 5 minutes, 24/7. I'm sick of using broken staplers! I finally brought in my personal stapler recently (that I had had for over a decade)...and they somehow managed to destroy it by the end of the week. I'm praying this one will fair better.Sidenote: Why does the product review ask me to rate it on "lightweight??" I don't know who is in charge of that but they should really change it. The whole point of this product is that it ISN'T lightweight...at least that's the sole reason I purchased it. I'm glad I can choose to not rate it on that but regardless...IMO it should either be changed to "heavyweight" or deleted entirely.

Like just about everyone else who bought this stapler, I got it because I love the film "Office Space," in which this item of stationery features prominently. And when I took it in to work so my co-workers (to whom I introduced said film) could get a kick out of it, I discovered it's actually a ruddy good stapler.Although it's designed to work best with Swingline's own staples, it works perfectly well with any standard 26/6 staples you may have lying about. Its smooth lines, cursive-font trademark and glossy, candy-apple red and chrome colour scheme make it look like a miniature 1950s car on your desk. The rounded edges make it comforable and easy to hold, and the extra-long arm gives you the kind of leverage to make stapling even a relatively thick stack of pages (say, 20 sheets, for example) nice and easy, with little effort. As mentioned, this product came about because of the cult comedy movie "Office Space." In order to make Milton's stapler stand out more in the film, the props department painted it red. The Swingline company then started to be hounded by people who wanted to order one of their red staplers . . . which they didn't actually make at the time. Eventually, demand was so great, Swingline caved in and now makes this special edition Rio Red stapler, "the star of any office space," as the blurb on the package claims. If you're buying it for a gag, for a present, or as a collectible, that's fine and dandy. But you'll also get a darned good stapler, too. It's so good, people may want to take it from you. And then you'll have to do something about that . . . .JUST OVER ONE YEAR ON: I've dropped this stapler a few times, including knocking it onto a bare concrete floor from a 3-foot-high countertop. It's been passed around my workplace whenever everyone else's cheap plastic staplers won't do the job, and after all that, it's only jammed once so far, and had a couple of tiny dings taken out of the enamel. Holding up well!JUST OVER TWO YEARS ON: Still going strong, but hinge squeaks a bit. Has only jammed thrice in two years. Still raises a smile with the colleagues.JUST OVER THREE YEARS ON: Still at it. Jammed once in the last year. Otherwise, still as good as ever.JUST OVER FOUR YEARS ON: Still going well, but found out that it has a tendency to jam if you don't use 26/6 staples.JUST OVER FIVE YEARS ON: It's jamming a bit more frequently, but then, my office-mates who get their grubby mitts on it think that all staplers should be bashed to make them work properly. When expected to do reasonable work and treated well, it still works well.SIX AND A HALF YEARS ON: I left my last job shortly after the last update and took my stapler with me, much to the regret of the rest of the staff. They loved to use "Big Red" just as much as I did, and even though they had their own company-supplied staplers (all of which were smaller, cheaper, and plastic), they would still come up to my cubicle for the sheer pleasure of easy, comfortable, satisfying, and ergonomic stapling. And, yes, it's still the best stapler I've ever used.
