Though the Shappell sled is made of sturdy plastic, adding these wear bars extends the use by many years. I used duct tape to hold the bars in place while drilling the holes and securing the screws on the flat bottom. Once those were in place I enlisted the help of my husband to bend the bars on the curved front of the sled while drilling the holes and setting the screws. After tightening the nuts with a socket wrench I went back with the power driver and tightened all the screws from the bottom. These wear bars are not coming off!

I actually used a 11/64 drill bit and I liked it because it held the screw in the sled while pushing on the rubber washer. I bent the one side in my hands before installing for the curve of the front of sled. I started at the back and worked my forward. Drilling one hole at a time then putting in screw to hold in place. Then next hole drilled and screw in etc. Worked great and easy install.

As others have said, they are a pain to install so definitely start front to back taking care of the curve first. Much easier this way. Once installed it’s immediately evident that you add years to your sleds life by the extra runner protection. I’m hard on mine. Usually dragging deer and gear over rough rocky terrain. I’m not on snow covered paths. The biggest negative to using it like I do (pulling behind an ATV) is they work too well. When going downhill the sled can easily outrun the ATV and get all wrapped up in the tires. Before I presume there was enough ground friction to keep the sled behind me. Not anymore. A quick and safe fix was to upgrade to the jetsleds metal twin bar hitch. Well worth the 50 bucks for added safety and effectiveness. Works like a charm. I highly recommend both products.

Ordered 2 weeks ago, the seller is actually about 150 miles from me. On their company website they were listed as out of stock - but unfortunately I bought it through their listing on Amazon where they didn't show it being out of stock. It's something I needed, so I ended up buying this locally at an sporting goods shop, and will return the Amazon order. If or when it arrives.A fairly easy installation, I worked on it in the house so everything was warm. The wear bars work great, used the sled to haul chainsaw, gas can, bar oil, etc. back into the woods to clean up trails on the property. Lots of heavy snow this winter! Sled pulls straight & easy with these installed. Should hold up well and for a long time.

For the folks complaining: These go on easily if you start at the front first. They go between the groves on the bottom, not on the portion the goes up into the sled! This is for the guy who cut the 3rd runner in half and now has 4 runners! That one really made me laugh!! Who cares if they're green blue or pink? You don't see them on the bottom of the sled. If the screws are too long, you mounted them from the wrong direction. And lastly, if you mounted these on an XL and they're 4 inches short, no matter because that part of the sled will never drag the ground unless you're pulling a wheelie with your sled. People really crack me up!!!

These SWB3 wear bars are amazing, easy to install (30 - 45 min), even by myself. Used them for the first time last weekend and couldn't believe how much easier my Jet Sled 1 moved across the ice vs. without bars with very little wear on them. I even towed the sled with my wife and dog in the sled without issues. I would highly recommend these wear bars to save the bottom of your sled for a longer life.
