You get what you pay for. It splits logs cleanly as long as there aren’t big knots and the ends are parallel so it won’t fly off. The stroke stops well short of the wedge, but the log is mostly split by that point so easily separated. Only used it for a dozen logs to make sure I didn’t need to return it. WSeems sturdy enough but time will tell. Decent job for under $400.

I had the "Super Handy Chicken Plucker first". This splitter lives up to the name. Quickly make kindling out of stored split wood to get the coals going and burn the exposed wet wood. Got it on Nov 22 and very happy! I put it in a cart so it was not so much bending. The cart catches the split logs too. Very quick and auto return. 12 out 10

This log splitter has some power. I had a bunch of cherry to split. Wasn't sure how well it would do. It split it with no problem at all.

First off, I wanted a gas powered one but am always leary in keeping another motor running, especially when you may only use it a couple of times a year. With that said, splitting wood by hand got to be quite a chore at my advanced age. I was looking at another one of these and decided to wait until Prime days. I was glad I did, I got a better one for the price of a lessor one. This unit was delivered by UPS and it's kinda heavy so the UPS guy says where do you want it. I had him back up to my wood pile and we unloaded it. The box was a little busted up so he suggested I check it out first. Yes, the cardboard top was bashed in a bit but I was amazed at how well packaged this this was. Really heavy styrofoam on top and bottom so it wasn't going to move and 1/8" plywood on the front, back and where the electronics and motor are. Great job that way for sure. Anyways, unpacked it, put the wheels on(really simple) and found where the dip stick was. It's not marked, which they can improve on. Like others have said the oil was not installed, (it might be a shipping issue, but they could have included it) so luckily I read previous reviews and bought a gallon with it. Filled it up and plugged it in. Two handed operation, which is fine as you don't get a hand in the way. I tried a couple small logs, and they split with ease. Since I was testing and it was getting dark, I decided to try a large log that I had been unable to split for years as it had a large knot from another branch on it. Well it split that sucker! I took it through a couple more times to get it smaller. It was hickory, by the way, which is pretty hard to split normally. The only bad thing, which doesn't come into play for me, is you do need an electric source nearby. It's pretty darn quiet too as it only runs when you press the button. I recommend this one for sure.

The splitter seems sturdy and works really well. The instructions are however terrible. There is quite a bit to put together despite previous reviews stating it is ready assembled. The black plates are pure guesswork and there is nothing to tell you which bolts to use for what ? It also comes with a stand which was a pleasant surprise as not mentioned in the listing. I would definitely recommend the splitter, however, find a similar one on-line as there seems to be lots of a similar builds by various companies and download their instructions which is what I did in the end. Be very careful with the plastic bleed screw. It should only be closed when moving the splitter around - remember to open it when in use. don't be too heavy handed with it or you will break the head off it. - It's at the end of the machine (Not controls end) and looks like a plastic wing nut.

So I'm 71 living in NH using 4 plus cords of hardwood a year. Seems like every year the cords are split coarser and coarser, so it got to the point where i needed to split a good 50% of the delivery to fit effectively in my wood stove. I'm also told stubborn and old school is a description of me... so when i decided the splitting maul was becoming a bit much, i thought log splitter... well try to find one to rent for under $100 a day up here... plus gas, plus trailering plus getting it near the wood. I broke down and thought, well for $400 it'll pay for itself in a year or two.... if it works. Well, it shipped in days (thank you UPS), arrived in pristeen shape, easy to set up, easy to use. I'd read reviews and felt the observation that she's low to the ground, so I dug out a 18inch high 16inch wide x 4ft table thing i'd made along the way, set it on it and honestly... split every piece i put on it for 3-4 hours so far... not a misstep to be had. The wood was all hardwood, seasoned 6 months, and generally quartered pieces of 16 to 18 inch diameter trees. I'd guess at roughly that's 1/2 cord split to satisfaction. And no back pain, shoulder pain, old man pain.... Hopefully she lasts for years to come, because talk about being spoiled... wow... love it so far. If there was anything I"d complain about, it'd be the controls.... it requires two handed operation, but if you're not in a rush, which I'm not, that works out fine... She's not light, but that also is fine by me, some might have trouble dragging her around. You need a solid power source, and good power cord, and don't forget to open the hydraulic bleeder valve when in use.... I had no issues, but i could see how you could have them if you didn't follow the instructions on that.

It was easy to set up, instructions were clearly written, and it handled logs up to about 8-9 inches with ease. It struggled at times on some of the 10" logs, especially if they were oak, but I was able to split 95% of the wood I wanted to. Definitely good value for the money. If you need something that will split larger diameter logs, you need to go with a gas powered splitter and twice the cost.

Product shipped from Portland, OR and shipped to Tennessee. Shipping time was good. Product weighs about 105 lbs. Box arrived in decent condition.Upon opening you could tell it had been through a rough ride. Thin pieces of wood were put on 3 side of the box (not sure why not 4). Immediately noticed busted plastic. Once I removed the unit you could tell the electrical box was busted. Literally the only part of the unit that could be broken. The start button looked like it was either a prior used unit or came off the line with no QA.Assembly was quite simple. All parts were available. Took about 2 minutes to get the wheels on and we were ready rock.Plugged unit in directly to the outlet (no extension cord). Pulled down handle and pressed the start button and unit functioned properly. Upon the second attempt, nothing happened. Unplugged, plugged back in, pressed reset, and attempted another cycle. Motor only buzzed for about 5 seconds and clicked off. Repeated reset cycle. Same result 5x over.Called Amazon and they offered a full refund. This one is a roll of the dice for sure.
