The foam these are made from is low density and the butyl tape does not stick to it very well. It sticks the to the tape backer better than the foam, so pulling the backer off will pull the tape off the foam. The foam also ships rolled up, and wants to roll back up after installed. Due to the low tape adhesion, it will coil up off the tape and fall off after being installed. The high density foam sold big box stores is way better, but they don't sell the reverse profile for some reason so you are stuck trying to find it online. You can make this work if you have to, but I don't recommend it except as a last resort.
