  • Please insert the tubes into the machine symmetrically, or will not work properly in an asymmetric state.
  • Please add a tube of clean water to achieve symmetrical operation if you have a single sample.

04

  • Please check the rotor for corrosion damage berfore operation.
  • Please balance the weight of the tubes down to about +/- 0.1 grams. If your opposing pairs of tubes are off by more than that, it starts making a lot of noise.

05

  • It has 3 adjustable speed ranges and a adequate timer (+/- 6 seconds).
  • Although it vibrates slightly at speeds <500 rpm, it smooths out and runs very nicely >1,000 rpm.

I bought this years ago and it still works amazing,The only thing negative I would have to say about it is you have to position it exactly otherwise you can’t turn it up very high, and then it moves about

So let me start from the beginning. I purchased this item and it came not working. I had to pay shipping even though I am a prime member of almost $17.00. I was sent a replacement and told not to worry about returning the one sent to me that did not work. I get the product and the same issue! It doesn’t work like stated at all. I went straight to the place to send it back and even messaged Amazon when I did. It’s been over a month and the seller has not refunded me the money for the product. But get this… they will charge you AGAIN for shipping.. that’s right, they will send you something that is defective, make you pay to ship it, send you more defective items and then apparently they will charge you for shipping again. Not like you will ever see the money. So let’s calculate and round this up 45+17+17= 79.00For absolutely nothing and also wasting A LOT of my time. Not only from the seller but also from Amazon and the people who work there that hang up or do t do anything. That’s not including the hours spent attempting to call and chat.

It's very inexpensive for what it does. One slight concern is that the lid is a cheap plastic thing that could easily pop off, exposing rapidly spinning tubes to fingers. Just be careful and keep away from children. It doesn't come with a chart converting RPM to "g-forces" which could be important for a lot of applications. But it does report that 4000rpm (max) = 1790 g. Using the conversion formula, I deduced that the spin radius is 10cm, which seems accurate to my eyeballing measurement. One can then use the formula: RCF = 11.2 x Radius x (RPM/1,000)^2 to calculate the G forces at all other speeds for this centrifuge.

This device is very similar to the centrifuges that we used in my high school chemistry lab. It's state of the art 1970's technology. It was old when I used it in the 1990's, but it worked.I did a series of about 40 runs on this machine to help clarify a particularly gooey herbal remedy that I make (contains several types of tree sap). I used either 1000 or 2000 rpm, with about a five minute timer. That was sufficient to get the liquid clear enough to filter. (I got over a liter through a 2 inch filter disc on a vacuum filter, and probably could have done more, but it would start to slow down at about that point.)I encountered no problems at all, however, if you have no experience with this type of thing, it could be very easy to damage. It's a fairly sensitive device as far as balance is concerned. I found that I needed to balance the weight of the tubes down to about +/- 0.1 grams. If your opposing pairs of tubes are off by more than that, it starts making a lot of noise, and if it's really loud, you have to turn it off pretty quickly to keep from destroying it. If you manage to balance the tubes exactly, at 2000 rpm, it makes only a very pleasant whirring noise. It's kind of tough to balance by eyeballing the liquid level in the tubes, but I was able to do it by using a pipette to transfer a few drops back and forth until it looked good. The included tubes say that they are good for 20 ml, but if you are going higher speed (e.g. 2000 rpm), I would suggest going only to about 19 ml. Otherwise, liquid starts coming out the sides of the tube and getting on the rotor. Getting different tubes with caps would solve that problem.
