I bought this last year finally tried to use it. And it does not even power on. Not only does it not even power on. The cord does not even fit. I'm going to try and get a replacement. But since I waited I am not to hopeful.

First off, the pros :It does come in a neat carrying case. It's fairly easy to use. There's only 2 buttons to press, so it's easy to figure out what they doConsI tested this while detailing a car. While it did give higher readings the higher the polish I used, they weren't consistent at all. 5 readings in the same spot gave me 5 different numbers all 5 times. 2 or 3 of those readings were more than a point off. I was able to use a friend's meter (difference brand) and his read within a tenth each time. The unfortunate part is that his device was half the price of mine. There was an invoice that it came in with the box. It stated that it was $45 USD. When I attempted to contact the seller, they responded by saying that it was for customs only and apologized for the invoice being in there. To me, declaring a much lower value at customs is essentially tax evasion.

I had noticed in our home that there were different 'sheens' in different locations; most likely due to touch up. I used this device to examine every wall in our home to see just what the majority 'sheen' was. It was a snap! I then tested many of the areas that didn't look the same and verified that they were either higher gloss or lesser gloss. I bought the matching paint with a gloss/sheen matching the majority and touched up every spot. Looks great. This meter is self calibrating. Keep various surfaces clean before you run the calibration. The meter uses a 60 degree incident light for the calibration/measurements. This is a good choice. You only need the 80 degree if you have a very high gloss surface and you need a tight estimate on the gloss/sheen; similarly, you only need the 20 degree if you have a very low gloss/sheen surface and need a tight estimate. The 60 degree only meter is much less expensive than those offering one or two of the other measurement angles and it is more than sufficient for home painting.
