Excellent black tile for artwork. I do Zentangle-inspired art, and like using these black tiles with colorful ink for an interesting effect. Nice smooth surface for drawing on.

I got these because I wanted to use them with my metallic watercolors. So far, they seem to hold up well and forgive paint mistakes without falling apart with water. They are thinner than I expected but that's all on me. In all, they are a nice pack of cards to get creative with and can't wait to see what I can come up with on all 75 cards.

These artist tiles are nice quality stock, an interesting shape, and make being creative pretty easy, they are small and not intimidating, and after one creates a few of these small artworks, be ready to feel inspired to continue, even to larger works.I think they work great with Gelly Roll® pens, as well as Posca® paint pens, as well as some metallic watercolours.I really like the bold effect of the light ink/paint on the dark, and even the shiny Gelly Roll black glaze pen looks awesome. It's fun to experiment as these are small and there are so many! I purchased 2 packs right off, as I knew they would help inspire me!I would highly recommend these for art, practise, flashcards, greeting card embellishments, creating reference samples for your colours on black, fold in half for place name cards, chord reference for musicians... so yeah, lots of uses for these and I will definitely order again.

This review is geared toward those who doodle, tangle, or zentangle black on white versus white on black. If you look at the first photo, I used these product: Sakura 50039 Micron 08 Pen in Black Set of 6 , Sakura Gelly Roll White Pens set of 6 , Zentangle Tiles in Black set of 75 , and Zentangle Tiles in White set of 75 .Zentangle Tiles in Black set of 75:1. These are about the same thickness as the white zentangle tiles, much heavier than any index stock or card stock. You can draw on both sides and the ink will NOT go through.2. The black is a deep dark black. You will NOT see any fibers like you do on the gray and tan papers.3. White shows up really beautifully. I used the Sakura Gelly Roll White pens set of 6.4. The black has more tooth than the white, so the white gelly roll ink, when used to shade areas, flakes off which is annoying.5. If you intend on using pencil, I'd use the American General white pencils as I've seen photos of that used and it's more consistent, but lighter than the Sakura Gelly Roll white ink which is why I chose the Gelly Roll white.6. These are very durable. You can put them in your purse and carry them around so you can tangle on the go.In the first photo, you can see the difference between using black ink on white tiles versus white ink on black tiles. Although the white on black pops, the ink flakes off. For long -term use, and smoothness of the pens and paper, I prefer using the black ink on white tiles.

I bought the black tiles after I got a pack of the white ones and was happy with them. These are thicker than a regular index card and I've found that because the edges are clipped there is less opportunity for them to get bent.So far I've tried Pentel Sunburst Metallic medium gel pens (silver and gold), Sakura Gelly Roll 08 (white), and the Sakura Gelly Roll 06 moonlight pens. I bought a pack of five Moonlight pens at a local hobby store that included yellow, orange, two pinks, and green. All colors show up well on the black tile. I tried a pointillistic approach on the tile with the Moonlight pens and it my husband said it reminded him of the Lite Bright toy. It really looks like one of those neon boards you see in coffee shops. These are a great size for Zentangle or just plain drawing of any kind and would probably work well in mixed media applications. The white ones take stamp pads well so I expect the black tiles would work with white or metallic ink pads and rubber stamps. At this price they're well worth the money and you won't feel guilty if one of your pieces of artwork doesn't quite turn out to be a masterpiece. :)
