Used this to clean up some albums that were sitting in a basement for about 30 years. So much funk cleaned up. They sound a lot better now.

This item is fantastic. It's manual so no battery concerns, that also helps prevent damage to vinyl. Most of my albums are from the 60s and 70s, some from the 40s and 50s. They all sound fantastic, most as they did when new. I just finished listening to the Beatles "Yesterday and Today". I bought the record 58 years ago and now sounds like new. The unit is simple and easy to use. My only regret was waiting so long before upgrading my cleaning process. This works, is simple and I love the results.

I have owned this record cleaning for system for over a year now and I can say it is durable and effective for what it is. Don't expect ultrasonic quality results, but it is high quality for the price. Only nitpick is the cleaning solution, as I would advise using something other than included in the kit.

This kit is very easy to use & does a good job, i would recomend that you also get some record drying racks to complete the washing day.

Records are gross. No, seriously. They’re dirtier than you realize. I used the Studebaker to wash around 140 7” records and let me tell you. Ew, ew, ew ew ew. Just look at the pic.The Studebaker itself is pretty straightforward to use. The rollers fit in three positions for different sized records (no 6” option). The rollers have a soft silicone o-ring in the middle for the record to rest against, but I did notice that the o-ring could shift slightly and the record would get wedged between the o-ring and the plastic of the roller. This happened almost exclusively on the side where I was pushing the record down, and rarely—if ever—on the side where I was pulling the record up (imagine steering a tiny ship to the right). Not a big deal, but it did cause the roller to fall into the water a number of times. I also imagine these o-rings will wear out and lose elasticity at some point, but o-rings are cheap. Two microfiber brushes fit snugly against each other so the record has full contact on both sides as you turn it. One thing about the brushes; I noticed that they get pretty close to the label, so it’s possible that some cleaner and/or water will contact the label. If you leave the record in the contraption, the label could soak up some liquid. The first few records you wash will probably cause the brushes to pull up out of their spots when you pull the record out since they’re so snug against the record, but that problem stopped after a number of washes.Someone already mentioned that the instructions do not mention anywhere to put water in the thing, but it holds water well. I used distilled water, mostly just because. No leaks or spills. There’s quite a bit of excess water on the record itself when you pull it out (some of which wanted to drip down across the label), so I kept a microfiber cloth handy to wipe the record mostly dry before putting it in a rack (recommended if doing any sort of bulk washing). I recommend keeping the clear plastic top to prevent evaporation. It seems a little flimsy like it’s part of the packaging, but it’s useful.I have not used any other record washing system, so I cannot compare. However, I am satisfied with this one and do not plan on buying a different/more expensive brand. I’d recommend this product for anyone who collects old, used records, especially anyone who plans on buying/selling on any marketplace like Discogs or… Well, anywhere else you can buy used records.Five stars, even with a few design flaws.

Good value for money compared to other options. Everything is solid and appears well made and high quality.Works very well. Cleaned about 50 discs after it arrived, many of them from my dad's collection that were in pretty bad shape. These disks from the '50's and early 60's are now a delight to listen to. A really remarkable improvement for just a little time and effort. That said, the cleaner is a little fussy to use. As a record is rotated through the brushes the roller on the "uphill" side of the rotation tends to pop up out of its slot quite easily. When it pops out the cleaning process is interrupted and the record needs to be moved around to allow the roller to be reinserted in its place. All in all a good value that does an amazingly good job at cleaning old records and restoring them to really darn good condition. This is not snake oil. This makes a real and meaningful improvement in sound quality.

The included record cleaning liquid is uselessly small quantity since you need to fill the semicircular tank and replace the cleaning solution regularly. I found that Kodak Photo Flo 200 film cleaning solution works very well and is economical - a teaspoon in the Studebaker tank and then filled with plain tap water can audibly reduce surface noise crackles on used vinyl records. Photo Flo is an alcohol surfactant with a small amount of protein dissolving enzyme, so you should wear dishwashing gloves but getting a little on your skin is harmless. It's working strength is 200:1 dilution with plain tap water no need for bottled water as long as your tap water dries without leaving much residue. The "wet" record will drip dry on a dish rack with a paper towel underneath the record in 5 minutes ready for improved sound playing. After using it for one year I found a minor annoyance that the particle board wood case soaks up water and expands but the tub and rollers is made of plastic. Also, after a few record cleanings and after a few weeks there can be some mold developing in the cleaning solution so it should be thrown out and replenished.

It looks like a SpinClean and is less than half the price, but is the Studebaker the same? No.The pads, when compared to the SpinClean, are not as thick, use looser-fitting velour-like material, and do not conform to records as well as the SpinClean pads. Unless you are cleaning 180g or thicker vinyl, the Studebaker pads will not fully contact the record and thus push out dirt and crud. I actually like this unexpected feature: It works well when using the Studebaker to rinse records. The rubber centers of the rollers fit loosely, easily twisting in place and coming loose: The SpinClean rollers do not do this, and the SpinClean rollers hold together much more securely than the Studebaker rollers. Roller slots for 6" and 10" vinyl on the SpinClean reach deeper into the water reservoir but not on the Studebaker, rendering it nigh-on useless for cleaning anything smaller than 12" records unless one fills the reservoir with more water—and thus increasing likelihood for spills. The SpinClean reservoir has a clearly marked fill limit line, the Studebaker? No.The Studebaker unit is heavier than the SpinClean and looks nice. It needs small rubber feet to make best use of its heft, something that could have been included as stock. Unfortunately, after only a few months' use, the black covering is already beginning to shrink at each corner on the top, exposing particle board underneath. I expect it will begin looking poor in another few months. Rinsing out the Studebaker is simple, but the SpinClean's bright plastic makes it very easy to see how much dirt remains inside.I bought the Studebaker specifically to have a device to rinse just-cleaned vinyl. For that purpose, it works well. Album center labels see very little water and the Studebaker easily fits on my counter next to my SpinClean or ultrasonic setup. As a cleaner, however, I cannot recommend this unit. If you want a SpinClean, get a SpinClean. Yes, it is overpriced for what it seems to be, but it exceeds the Studebaker in every measure.
