I am taking away 1 star because my Audi spring was 16mm and the safety pin wouldn't close and I was scared to use it. This tool is made for 14mm or smaller springs.

Not the best design for grabbing on to the spring. Kind of a sketchy hold.

I used these to compress the springs on a strut that had a bad mount. Having never used a spring compressor before, at first I treated these gingerly and cranked each side down just a bit at a time using a ratchet. Eventually I got a feel for how they worked and felt more comfortable cranking them down about 1/2 inch each side. I made sure to oil the threads and the compressors showed no signs of strain or wear even after I had to release and recompress the springs three times for this particular job. Other details: The tops of the compression screws can be cranked using a 1/2" square drive or a 22mm socket or wrench. I also found that a 7/8" wrench worked well. The retaining pins are a nice feature and helped to make the operation of compressing the springs feel a little safer. Overall these seem like a well made product that come in a nice red storage case. Recommended.
