Your cart is empty. This carboy thermowell is used in conjunction with the Digital thermostat to more accurately regulate internal temperature during fermentation. It is exceptionally useful during the start of fermentation when the lag between ambient temperature in the refrigerator and actual temperature in the carboy can vary greatly. Now you can keep your beer or wine within one degree of the set point on your Digital Controller. Designed to fit either the 5, 6 or 6.5 gallon glass carboys, or any other similarly sized opening hole, the unit comes with an 15 inch

Works great for my beer fermenter. I'm able to drop the thermometer down into the center of the beer to get a more accurate reading of temperatures. The build is good quality, but I've definitely seen better, just not at this price.

Edit 2/17/16: Ok I am taking three stars away and editing my review. I was just doing exactly what I described below, but this time stopper kept uncontrollably slowly slipping into the carboy. I attempted to carefully pull it back up with the airlock but the airlock pulled free and the stopper and the thermowell fell completely into the wort. If my beer becomes contaminated I am going to be pissed (the inside of the thermowell isn't sanitized as I want it dry). And I have no idea how I'm going to get it out once the beer is done. Don't purchase these! Stupid design.Original review: As others have mentioned I had a hard time getting it to stay in the bottle when wet. Unlike the photo, the stopper is made of smooth silicone, so when sanitized in Starsan solution it's slick. I was using a velcro strap to keep it in the bottle, but I have recently discovered that I can actually set it fully in the mouth of the carboy- so it is actually under the lip, and it stays fine. When I want to remove it I give it a quick spritz of Starsan solution from a spray bottle and work it out with the airlock. It slides out pretty easily. All in all not a great design but it works.

Price is a bit steep for what it is, quite useful none the less.

As mentioned in several other reviews, the bung that came with this thermowell was way too small for a 6 gallon better bottle. It seems like $25 for this items is way too expensive, but unfortunately I have been unable to find any other place where I could purchase this.Perhaps do a little more looking around and see if you can find another item that could serve the purpose for less money, and save some cash.

I brought this so that I could regulate my fermentation temperature. After the 1st month I went to rack mead into the secondary and the well was full of mead and my temp probe was ruined. The mead was bad and my investment in the whole thing was gone. 5 gallons down the drain.

The unit is solid, but it has a crimped bottom that's been welded closed. small pits could hold bateria, but since it's SS, I'll just blast it with a torch and heat sanitize.

I just started using this in my controlled fermentation chamber & it works very well. It allows my Johnson Controls regulator to slide right in & take an accurate reading from the middle of the wort in my 5.5 gallon carboy. It fits perfectly into the opening. I honestly can't see a problem with this. I imagine if you had a larger carboy it could be a little small but for most batches for most homebrewers this works just fine. No complaints here. It also arrived early!!

I use a 6.5 gallon carboy as my primary fermentor. The stopper that this thermowell comes installed in is just a little undersized for the 6.5 gallon carboy. It is almost flush with the rim of the carboy mouth when it's inserted tight enough to ensure a seal. The stopper appears to be made of a dense foam and I noticed if it was wet when inserted into the fermentor it tended to pop back out unless it was really pushed in there hard. I actually pulled the tube out of the stopper and installed it in another cap I had with two holes in it. Maybe I'm being too picky about sealing the carboy but I know I would worry about it if I used it the way it came. The transaction with the seller was good though.
