She loved it at Christmas. She had read a book on tops and never had one

This was a little smaller than expected and has obnoxious music that plays loudly when you spin it. Not the top I remember from my younger days, for sure. Seems kinda cheaply made.

First of all it is very small. In the photo the hand holding it is only six months old so you can see how small the top is. It has lights and music but you cannot turn the lights on without the music which is very loud and quite obnoxious. Also it feels flimsy. I would not recommend it or buy it again. The first picture is a regular size top next to the one we purchased here

This was completely obnoxious when we tried it. I got a small screwdriver and took it apart. Turned it on to see what I needed to do, I was hesitant to cut any wires, so I unscrewed the speaker, removed a small plastic piece with a copper circle piece and turned it on, blessed silence! I put the speaker back in since I didn’t want to mess up the balance. Very happy with just the lights and no sound!!

Most Americans over 35 or so will remember these tops from their childhood. This *is not* that top. This thing is small, cheap, plastic junk that (very loudly) plays a very poor recording of unknown music.

Tiny, and overpriced for the size, but I knew this from the description and reviews. However, my 4 yr. old granddaughter had been playing a game on her tablet and one screen showed a variety of toys and when she'd touch the toy a lady would tell her what it was and there is a corresponding sound to go with it. One toy was this top - which the lady called a whirligig - and my granddaughter kept touching that toy and would ask me if she could have one.So, I did a lot of searching, hoping to find the large, metal, old style spinning top that I recalled from childhood - but those apparently no longer exists (or are worn out and crazy expensive as a collector's item). There are some small tin/metal ones, but the reviews are very poor due to quality, tiny size and how well they hold up - most fall apart and arrive damaged.I kept coming back to this one, as it looks like the one in her game, and is made of hard plastic, so hopefully it would hold up while she learned how to get it to spin. So, I ordered it, as she really wanted to know what one was, and trying to describe it just doesn't get that firsthand experience across. I knew it wouldn't have the old metal sounds as it's being pumped up to spin, but it's pretty close, as it does have the metal shaft/pump handle. It arrived, intact, and is durable plastic. It does have lights and sound, however, I was fore warned about how annoying and loud this thing can be, so I never even took the plastic protector out/off the battery, and my granddaughter actually broke off the pull tab, so by accident she herself disabled it being able to power up. I still haven't opened the battery compartment to remove the plastic barrier as I don't want to deal with the extra noise, yet, maybe when she's a little older and can control her emotions better and doesn't get upset by being asked to play with it elsewhere. She's plenty happy with it without the sounds (doesn't know it makes any, other than its natural noise as you pump it up).The tiny size actually works fine for small hands to work with, and it does the job of being a show and tell toy experience! She played with it for a few days and now only plays with it once in a while. But now she knows exactly what a spinning top (whirligig) is and what it does.
