The peghead overlay is the face of your stringed instrument: the finishing touch of quality. Ebony is a well-established favorite for this purpose.
Thickness-sanded to 3/32" (2.38mm), these veneers are large enough for guitar, banjo or mandolin.
This Ebony veneer measures approximately 4" x 8" x 3/32" (106mm x 203mm x 2.38mm)
NOTE: Ebony is usually not uniformly black. We recommend Black Fingerboard Stain, as used by Gibson®, Paul Reed Smith® and other makers for darkening the streaks on ebony fingerboards, bridges and peghead overlays.

A gorgeous piece of wood. But it’s about 5mm thick, which was way too thick to use as veneer in my application. I don’t have the tools to reduce the thickness and couldn’t find a pro shop to do it. I had planned to replace the old veneer which was about 1mm thick on the peg head of an antique guitar. I’m going to use it for something one of these days, just not as veneer.
