You can shop til you drop and you can search worldwide but you will never find a better pair of grilling, fireplace, wood burning stove, pit fire, barbecue etc... gloves than Steven Raichlen's gloves. Pay the price because they are worth it. *****

The gloves are long, almost to your elbow and provide great protection while working on a hot grill.

Great for operating tongues, spatula, excetera right above the coals. You can use them to pick up charcoal chimneys after you light the charcoal, move hot grates around, Even push lit coals around. Just keep in mind that they are not actually insulated so don't hold the coals in your hand. I'm not sure why you would do that anyway, but don't.They provide much more dexterity than oven mitts so you can manipulate all the tools that you might normally use with your grill or smoker.Well made. Very high quality. Get some, you'll be happy you did.

I bought these gloves to use while grilling. They were put to the test their first time being used. I needed to lift the grate to add more charcoal, so naturally I moved the grate. While moving the grate I could feel the intense heat from the grate through the gloves, and ended up with a couple of blisters on my fingers. I suspect the gloves were not meant to be used that way.I also wore the gloves to baste meat. It was great when used in this way. It does a good job of shielding hands and arms from heat.Taking into account the limitations of the gloves, they are good gloves for working food on the grill, just don’t expect to move a screaming hot grate wearing these.

I have a wonderful woodburning oven, which I love but getting it started means putting wood onto the fire in the oven. Of course I have wrought iron tools, but the truth is that these gloves work so well that unless I am moving logs that are fully on fire, I use gloved hands rather than iron tools to place the logs. They are far more comfortable and protective and heat resistant than silicone. I just ordered a 2nd pair to have on hand -- so to speak!-- even though these well made, sturdy gloves are still in great condition. Buy them, and you too will love them.

These were a gift for someone who has a Big Charcoal Egg and they are very well made and long on the arm for getting right in the grill to work. Very Satisfied with this purchase! Steven Raichlen is talented at grilling and should be proud to have his name on these as well.

Looking through some of the questions and comments listed for these gloves, I'd like to address a few concerns. First off, I'll address the size. At 6' 3" and 280 lbs, I have experience with items not fitting. These gloves fit me well so I would call them Extra Large. Now I have had XL gloves that didn't fit me, but these fit me well.Second, and probably most important is the insulating property of the gloves. In my opinion, these gloves are not intended for extended periods of exposure to extreme heat. To be more specific, these gloves are a pretty thick leather glove, but not an "insulated" glove. The intention of the gloves is to perform short duties that require heat and ember splash protection, which these gloves do. They nearly come up to my elbow so your forearms are protected from embers that may float when dumping the hot coals. You can also take out the grate while it's hot, but don't think you can stand there and hold something that's 500 degrees for a long period as that's not what these gloves are designed for, in my opinion. Something like the old asbestos loves are really made for extended heat exposure.I like them. I think they are made well and I am very happy that they fit so well!

These are the best bbq gloves I have bought. Had these for 2 years and they are still going strong. They are so heat resistant that you can pick up the hot grates. However I wouldn't recommend doing this as the grease gets into the leather reducing the heat resistance.

I was using the silicone oven mitts "grill gloves" that I purchased at Homedepot to cook on my grill and smoker. The only problem was that those gloves made it hard to use any grill tool such as Fork, Spatula and Tongs while cooking. I still need those silicone oven "grill" gloves to pick up hot items off and on the grill.These glove make it easier to use your grill Spatula to flip burgers and not worry about the flame touching you. Or using the Tongs when flipping other meats or vegetables. Since the glove comes up to my elbow I no longer feel the direct heat and making my cooking sessions more enjoyable. I would recommend these gloves to cook on the grill. But still keep the other heat resistant silicon oven mitts to put on and take off items off the grill. Since those can take the heat better. DO NOT TRY TO PICK UP ANYTHING HOT with these glove. The heat transfers real quick and your going to take these gloves off right away. I read that from other reviews on this product. Which I found out by beta testing these gloves.

These are excellent gloves for both the grill and fireplace. They are long (18"), so they cover the entire forearm, and they are heavy duty (thick leather). Also, they are gloves, not mitts, and that makes a huge difference. Mittens give you no ability to grip or pick up items; gloves give you all the flexibility of, well, gloves!My husband has used these everyday for both grilling duties and stocking his fireplace.He is super picky about quality, and these meet his exacting standards.The two 1-star reviews here are not based on this product, but rather on the manufacturer and the shipper. I hope those customers followed up, got their products, and then review the actual gloves.
