Having sufficient tread on tires is important for safe driving. Make checking treads fast and effortless with the Steelman Color-Coded Tread Depth Gauge. Easily identify how much tread depth is left on each tire with the red, yellow, and green color tiers. The green range is 6/32+ (4.75mm), the yellow range is 3/32-6/32 (2.4-4.75mm), and the red range is 0-3/32 (0-2.4mm). For added convenience, one side of the gauge reads in mm and the other in 32nds of an inch. The gauge is designed to hold the measurements for easy reading rather than immediately springing back into a neutral position. Featuring a pin clip, this compact gauge easily secures inside a pocket when not in use.

Package comes with a warning about being made out of cancer causing materials. Works as advertised and is a solid design. Only issue is I have to wear my readers to read the results as marking are very small. But then again my eyes are over 50 years old.

I've used these in all the shops I've worked. These are by far the best for this style IMO.

This tire tread guage works great. It' easy to use and easy to read, and the stem doesn't slip back like a lot of the cheaper ones that are sold online. I recommend this product and this company.

This product is about the size of half of a pen. It is easy to keep in your car and in your glove compartment if needed. It is pretty straight forward to use and pretty durable. What I like about it is the different color code for the tread depth remaining. Green means that your tire tread is fine, yellow requires attention soon, and red means you should replace really soon.Design:Like I mentioned earlier, it is half of a pen. It is easy to fit in your pockets or glove compartment. It can definitely get lost though if you aren't careful of where you place it. Simple design that you push onto your tires to determine how much tread is remaining. This beats having to use a quarter to see how much Washington's head is remaining to gauge how much tread-life is remaining.Use:You push the tube from on top to expose more of the "needle." I call it the needle because that is what you stick on the tires. You then push the needle onto the tire until it stops and that is how you get your measurement. The "needle" is harmless and won't pop your tires or anything so don't worry too much about that. The readings are easy to read once you determine where your tire tread are. I recommend measuring different times around the same tire as sometimes tires are being worn evenly. For the price that you get, it is worth getting this to see if you need a rotation, tires changed, or just simple examination. Overall, I really like this product and use it often and would recommend this to those who own a car.

Very Very handy tool. I tried to purchase this as I was in the market for new tires, I want to make sure, the readings of the tire guys are accurate for just $3, beside the penny trick, it gives me more precision and confidence that their readings are the same as mine. Just like a little tricky to use as you have to rotate it to find the right tread depth.Just check the area with 32nds or mm. You might get confuse so will get accurate reading.Hope it helps with your purchase.Conseasily lost if not properly place since its so thin

does the job, a little flimsy

Tool functioned well. I found this one to be exceptionally well designed with the color coded areas that allow the user to quickly distinguish tread depth as being: good, decent, or bad, without needing to get up close and read extremely tiny numbers (however it still has the numbers in both mm and /32"). So I would say its good for older folks who don't always have their reading glasses on them.Unfortunately, I lost this item as it fell out of my pocket some months back... I can say that I would have used this many a times if I still had it.. but felt too stingy to replace it as I can still visually distinguish good from bad tread and thats often good enough.

BUYERS SHOULD BEWARE: When I received this product I discovered it's made of LEAD rather than aluminum, stainless steel, etc. What kind of cheapskate company does that in this day and age, with everything we know about lead toxicity? If you buy this item, I strongly suggest you keep it in a re-sealable plastic bag when not in use, and wash your hands with soap after each use. Be extra careful not to put your hands in your mouth before washing them....Does the product work as expected? Yes, and that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. But I would never have bought this if I knew the build material.

I don't use this product for tire tread depth, but as an investigative tool for investigating the cause and origin of fires. It's great for determining how deep something has charred from the effects of fire and how deep drywall has calcined. The color coding on this model is nice too
