The Starrett 270 steel taper gauge has inch and millimeter graduations for measuring hole and slot sizes. The gauge has 0.001 graduations from .010 to .150" on one side and 0.05mm graduations from 0.3 to 4mm on the other side. It has a steel body for durability and long life. The gauge measures 7/16 x 6-1/4 inches/11 x 160mm (W x L, where W is the horizontal distance from left to right, L is the horizontal distance from front to back).
The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company, founded in 1880, is headquartered in Athol, MA.

Unfortunately these are now made in China and sold for the same price as when they were made in US. Disappointed.

Box is still marked Made in USA. I even called Starrett customer service, and they too informed me that this taper gauge is still made in Athol, Massachusetts. It's honestly a lot of money for a piece of metal, but I also don't have to question it's accuracy, because that's what I need. In the metrology lab, it's dead on for all gradients and markings.

Very handy if you are tired of using a bunch of feeler gauges to measure generator air gaps or large engine clearances. Nice hard metal too and the numbers don’t wear off.

I would like for it to be a longer in length although I understand why because of it's fragility. Maybe a hardened plastic would be a better choice of materials (The tip is easy to bend when accidentally dropped) especially when considering the cost
