Bought this to replace a faulty headlight switch and it did not solve the problem. After chasing every wire on the front half of my truck, I decided to test the new switch itself and found it to be faulty. Replaced with one from local auto parts store and worked perfectly. Wasted a lot of time trusting a new part to actually work.

1975 CorvetteThe electrical portion of the switch looks identical to the original one coming out of the car. But it lacks the vacuum hose connections for the system which raises and lowers the headlights. Unless installed on a car with a conversion to electrically operated day/night positioning, this switch won't work.Access and installation isn't too difficult, with the toughest part being removal and reinstalling the bezel nut.I picked one up at a Corvette specialty shop.

The switch in my ‘73 Vista Cruiser was scalding hot to the touch when I had my gauge cluster lights engaged during long drives—it was a fire hazard. I did some research and concluded that it was probably a bad switch that was imparting too much resistance in the circuit and was building up heat. This switch is identical in size/shape and quality to the original and works great. Zero heat buildup. As for the old one—the resistance coil had a lot of corrosion on one end, and had significant heat damage as a result. It was a ticking time bomb and would have eventually melted surrounding plastics or wires and caused a fire.

Hoping here to save someone the grief I just experienced trying to replace my switch. You have to reach under the dash to find this switch and then to find a little spring loaded release button on the bottom of the switch and push it up to get the knob and spindle assembly to pull out of the switch before it can be removed from the dash . the tip of the knob assembly shaft locks into a bakelite piece inside the switch housing . Forcing it out without pushing the release button just breaks the bakelite and ruins the switch . I think it would be real nice if the manufacturer put a note in the box with the new switch telling about this . Neither of the 2 repair manuals I have mentioned it either .

Switch works well, not as beefy as I would have liked but in the end no one sees it and it works.

This was a direct replacement for the one in my 1968 Pontiac Tempest (and presumably dozens of other vehicles). My old switch was feeling mushy, the headlight would sometimes flicker and the rheostat that controls the interior dash lights had almost no control. This new switch dropped right in with no issues and solved all those problems. The feeling when pulling the knob is much nicer. There's a nice solid "thunk" when the switch engages in either of the two positions. Also worth noting (because I had no idea) is that if you move the interior light dimmer all the way to the max it will keep the dome light on until moved back. I was puzzled until I figured it out; I guess that feature on my old switch was broken.
