I was having voltage fluctuations on a 1967 Chevelle Malibu and this was causing me some concern as the car is fitted with a FiTech EFI unit. The installation was simple and forward install, and now the car produces clean power for the electronics (and for my peace mind).

After going through a few mechanical regulators (they don’t make them like they used to) in my 68 GTO over the last 25 years I decided to switch to a solid state version. I was hoping to find one that is made in the USA but it seems that is an impossible task. I went so far as to call a few manufacturers to see where they make theirs. Standard (a trusted brand I have been using for half a century) was up front about this version coming from China. Before ordering this one I got one from another American manufacturer (name starts with W) who told me that they make theirs in the USA only to find when it arrived that it was made in China. So I returned that more expensive one and ordered this one. So far it’s working well, but I’m going to keep a spare handy in case this one craps out suddenly and I need to get the car home. If this doesn’t work out I’ll probably just relent and upgrade to an alternator with an internal regulator which is what I probably should have done in the first place. It sure would be nice if someone would start making more reliable solid state external regulators in the USA where quality control is a little better.

My Chevelle had a power draw when parked over night. I noticed the alternator and voltage regulator were warm to the touch in the morning. Traced the problem to the Voltage regulator points which where sticking.Replaced it with this SSD regulator and problem is now fixed. Charges great at 13.5-14.1 volts when running and no more draw when parked. Great replacement at a more affordable price than many auto stores.

Seriously don’t screw around with the garbage reproduction mechanical regulators. It’s 2023. I messed around with a brand new mechanical regulator for over 5 hours trying to get it to work right and stop overcharging at idle. Eventually the field coil got stuck engaged and causes the battery light to stay on key off and drain the battery. I finally realized that electronic regulators exist and ordered this up. Its definitely lighter than the original and its not as substantial, but it works perfectly. I have never seen such a stable charging system voltage on an vintage car. Not to mention this regulator was 1/3 the price of the garbage mechanical reproduction one i got from O’Reilly. Buy with confidence. It works perfectly.

The part was a one for one match to the pile of rust in my 68 Malibu. It worked perfectly for me and fixed my overcharging issue. I would absolutely recommend this product since it is 60 bucks cheaper than the OEM replacement, looks OEM enough, and works comparably to the original parts.if you're still running a DN style Alternator in your car, you should seriously get this. It takes the guesswork out of your charging system.

I have a pretty original 69 Camaro but the headlights and dash lights would pulsate when driving. I decided to go with an electronic version of the regulator. I did decide to drill out the rivets that hold it together and replace the cover with my "Delco Remy" cover for the right look. Started the car and put on the lights - no more pulsating lights!

This regulator only lasted for 4 months. It overcharged and cooked a new battery in the process.

My 50 years old Buick has had minor issues with the charging system for a very long time. I've attributed most of it to ground wires getting corroded. I've cleaned most of them but my headlights are still quite dim at idle. I had another issue where when I shut the car off the motor would run on as normal but the alternator light would come on. I'd have to put it in gear and turn the wheel to drag it down enough to die. We traced this to an issue in the voltage regulator.I was specifically looking for an electronic one. The old mechanical style are prone to issues with the contacts and this one fit the fill. My car now shuts off with the key as desired and the headlights are much more stable at idle.
