Takes up no room. Just find some sticks and you’re good to go. Great for the price.

This is a tripod brace for cooking while camping or backpacking. It consists of a metal disc with holes in it and a long chain with a hook at one end and a pin at the other, all stored in a small leather pouch. The idea is that you find three sticks of about the right length and diameter, put them through the outer holes to form the tripod, and then put the chain through the center hole, using the pin to secure it at the appropriate high for your cooking vessel. It seemed pretty sturdy, although that will depend on the strength of the sticks you select. It didn’t budge when I tugged on the hook, but I wasn’t able to test it with a cast iron dutch oven, since mine doesn’t have a bale handle. I did test it with a kettle and a small pot; the latter had about a quart of water in it. It held it up without issue for the entire cooking period. Some notes about use: You want to use this over a small bed of coals, not a big roaring campfire. Ideally, you’d be able to set this so that none of the legs are in your campfire. We did have to add some fuel to the fire while cooking, and while the flames licked up a bit none of the legs caught. Using green wood would help with both strength and fire resistance. Depending on where you are going, it might be trivial or very hard to find three straight sticks of the right diameter; keep that in mind and have a backup plan.

Well, does it work? Very much so. This is a pretty good tripod pot or Dutch oven holder for camping.I happen to work for a company that deals in metal products like aluminum, stainless steel and carbon steel material. I cut some aluminum round bar just smaller then the holes on the tripod plate and about three ft long and it works perfectly. I believe you’ll enjoy this product, it’s made very well and stands up to a good 20 Lbs of weight like heavy cast iron so I don’t think you’ll have to worry too much if your using a large Dutch oven on it, as long as the stands can support the weight, your good to go.
