This bell sounds great. Very cutting with a medium sustain. I have it mounted on top of an inverted Paiste china cymbal with a softee inbetween. It isn't black on the other side though, bronze like a regular cymbal.

Stagg is a brand that is found on all sorts of music gear in Europe, but isn't commonly found in the US. Their cymbals are often considered by the budget minded; the SH are particularly notable as inexpensive cymbals made of b20 "bell bronze" rather than the "sheet alloy" b8 from other budget offerings. Since these are handmade, there will be always be slight differences in sound from one cymbal to the next, but since bell cymbals aren't heavily hammered (like rides or hi-hats), the differences between any given two are minimalized. The cymbal sounds great: its sound is composed of an initial sharp ding, a low roar, and a high frequency echo accompanying the stick impact. Compared to something like a LP Ice Bell (which is some type of brass or nickel-silver alloy), this cymbal has more of a "chime" sound. It is likely due to b20 having a wider tonal spectrum, as well as the un-lathed top but lathed underside of the Stagg Bell. The LP is overall louder, but is somewhat more "clangy". The cymbal's rim gradually integrates into the bell; this gives the stick sound more depth than just the "ding" sound.I have heard other types of bell cymbals before, including a different Stagg BM Bell, a Sabian Alu Bell, a Meinl Classics Medium Bell, and of course, the Zil-Bel. The Meinl has a good deal of wash and splashy sound (very nice), but somewhat less piercing and focused. The Alu Bell is very dry and has a definite pitch, but isn't as full sounding. The Zil-Bel is a little bit dry, very piercing and bright, but perhaps so bright and piercing that it may not sound as pleasant outside of using it as a ride bell substitute. If you want a cymbal that is more than just a "quasi ride-bell", then this cymbal will suit you.
