I bought this assuming it would be like our other splat mat, but it's totally different. Our other one is a thick, heavy single layer material with the silicone dot backing. This mat is a thin satiny layer attached only at the edges to the silicone dot fabric so the two layers slide against each other. It is in no way waterproof or water resistant. That being said, the top layer of fabric is easy to wipe off or shake food off of. So it works well enough for crumbs and normal food, but I would not use this if serving soup or sauce or your kid tends to knock over cups. The alphabet print is really cute though, and our 2 year old loves pointing out the letters she knows.

Wow. This is like a water proof floor blanket. It’s easy to throw in the wash. Have never had a leak or spill go through. Wish I would have ordered this with my first kiddo!!

I love that this does what it’s meant to do in a sense. I have it placed under my toddlers food table and we love it. But I definitely don’t think it’s made for being placed over carpet. Mines looks good when I lay it down and place the table over it but that doesn’t last log and this tends to wrinkle up underneath the table. I’m on carpet so I’m sure that’s the reason bc I do believe if it were on a floor that had no carpet it’s stay put nicely. So if that moving about and wrinkled sheet look doesn’t bother you to much than I say go for it bc it’s cute and does the job. Once my bit is done with eating or craft play we grab all the corners and pinch them together and shake it out in the front of the house before we e just place it back down in its place. This is just perfect for us bc I don’t mind walking over to it and adjusting the rug but I’m sure after some time it’ll get old.

NOTE: item received for free through the Vine programThis is our second "splat mat" that we use in our dining room to minimize the inevitable messes from our 10-month-old at mealtime. For the price this is a great value, though my wife and I prefer the other mat that we bought for a bit more. Had we not had that mat as a comparison, though, we would've been perfectly happy with this one.THE GOOD:- While the build quality isn't the best, this is by no means a poorly built mat. The non-slip bottom surface does a reasonable job though isn't perfect. The visible surface is very food and water-resistant, making cleaning a breeze. Overall, the quality seems about right for the price (see below for the downsides).- We opted for the "grey numbers" print, and the printing is very well done: the colors are vivid and the design is pretty cute. There's a lot of blank space which makes the design feel incomplete in a sense, but overall, not bad.- As mentioned above, cleaning is a breeze. The visible portion of mat wipes clean pretty easily. If you prefer, you can throw it in your washing machine for a more thorough clean; we did this with ours and it survived the wash without any issues. Definitely better than cleaning the floor!THE BAD:- Back to the build quality: the mat is extremely lightweight. While this may not seem like a problem for something that's on the floor, the lack of weight makes it very difficult for the non-slip surface to actually function, and our experience has been that the mat doesn't stay put on the ground. The seller's description says that "it will also not slip when high chair is placed on," but this hasn't been true in our case - any slight movement results in the mat wrinkling or sliding along the floor. I guess this is only a slight annoyance, but compared to the heavier, thicker splat mat that we had bought before that doesn't have this issue, it leaves us preferring that mat over this one.For $20, I think you get a nice mat that does what it's supposed to do: minimizing the mess during meals with your little one. There are better options available on Amazon, but there's nothing terribly wrong with this one. Ultimately, we wouldn't not recommend it, but if you're willing to spend a few more bucks, you can get something that generally feels like a higher quality item. Not an unreserved positive recommendation, but still good value for the price.

I used to have a clear round mat with my first kid and appreciate this one more. It's relatively stain-proof except for the stickiest of messes especially if you don't clean immediately, but can't fault it for that. The grippers on the bottom do a good job of keeping it in place and have not degraded after about a dozen washes (it's still in good shape!) There IS a stinky smell when you get right up on it (when washing for example) but that's the only time it is detectable. Very cute and totally worth it for us!
