I have finally found a game my husband will actually want to play with me. So fun, engaging and brings out the competitiveness in players. A lovely game of strategy. I highly recommend. A friend introduced me and it is a hit. Affordable, pieces are sturdy, box could be a bit sturdier and colors a bit more varied but overall, fun and great game.

This is an initial cursory review that I will update as time goes on.What arrived was a set of 91 double-twelve dominoes. The tin was dented, as another review mentioned, but the damage was minor and I can deal with it. Also, the tin looks different than the one in the picture. The difference is purely cosmetic (it has a red border on top, the picture of four dominoes on a gray background, and the circle of a poorly played game of Mexican Train below it), but it is interesting to note. Inside the package were the dominoes, four plastic trains (red, green, blue and yellow, not red, blue, black and white as in the picture), the Mexican Train octogon starting piece, and the instructions for 16 games.Let me begin with the instructions. They are quite extensive, with Cardinal's description of Mexican Train (which is incomplete, see [...]), along with many other games and a few versions of Solitaire. There are plenty of games which can be played with a double-twelve set of dominoes, so having this set of rules is a good start, although I also purchased a book of rules that should be more comprehensive and complete (Great Book Of Domino Games by Jennifer A. Kelley).Onto the pieces. Everything is made in China. The starting octagon feels very cheap, but considering it's not really necessary for play and it does the job, it is satisfactory. All the plastic pieces have an odd smell, but that disappears over time. I left the dominoes out overnight and while there is still an odor, it is not as strong as it was when I first opened them. Another review notes that the dominoes are ceramic. This does not appear to be the case, although the plastic they are made from is indeed very sturdy. I do have some black flecks on some of the dominoes and the paint is chipped on some of the pips, but the pieces are otherwise intact and I'm happy with them. They are 2"x1" and 1/4" thick.I received a complete set of dominoes with no missing pieces or duplicates. You don't have to unwrap the dominoes to verify this. They come packaged together in a few shrink-wrapped bricks, each brick having a set of dominoes in order with the pips exposed. I would recommend opening the tin and examining the pieces to make sure you have a correct set in case you need to return/exchange it.For the price, I'd recommend this set. Dominoes are classic, and there is much fun to be had with a set like this.
