This popular steel design is a collaboration of the Shubb company and the late John Pearse. It is favored by many players of the 8-string Hawaiian guitar for its length, weight, and the semi-cutaway bullet tip which facilitates many difficult Hawaiian steel techniques. Precision-machined from solid stainless steel, the GS-20 features great durability and the big, solid tone that stainless steel imparts. This versatile steel is perfect for Hawaiian music and many other styles as well.

Wow, this is a great tone bar, it fits so comfortable in your hand and never slips out. My other bars will slip out of your hand occasionally but this one doesn’t. It is also a perfect fit, it fits like it’s part of your hand. I love it!

I recently drug out my old lap steel guitar, which was well hidden in our junk room! I decided to purchase another slide bar, as I am now a senior citizen and my grip isn't what it used to be. I'm certainly no lap steel guitar expert, but this one is very comfortable to use, for the most part. It presents a little difficulty using it for slants, especially when you get down to the higher notes on the neck. Overall, it is well made, priced right and should suffice for me.

I play a 12-string pedal steel, and wanted something to help make a good Dobro sound. This bar does very well. The extra length allows me to use it as a regular steel, if needed, though it is a little light for that.I appreciate that it has both square and rounded ends. The round ends allow 3-string combination slants, the square end allows me to use the bar as a plectrum. The finish is excellent, without pits or manufacturing dents.

I was writing a review of the Gretsch G5700 for my guitar site and it did not come with a steel, so i ordered a very basic kit. It worked ok but after choosing to buy the instrument, I wanted to see what a professional grade steel slide would make.It made a significant difference! More weight meant more consistent string tone, rounding on both ends make handling easier and a smoother grind on the face makes vibrato sound great. Save money and get your last slide steel first and just buy the Shubb SP2.

New to lap steel and the Dunlop lap dawg was recommended. Tried it but it felt awkward and tiny. The description size on this is wrong on Amazon as well as on packaging it came in. It’s 3 inches long and 3/4 inches tall. 1/4 longer and taller than lapdog, huge game changer. Great tone. I also tried the Dunlap long dawg which is the same length but still 1/4 inch shorter in height. Sent both the Dunlop’s back. I doubt you will be disappointed quality product here

This slide is great quality and nice and heavy with a great tone but it is for a larger hand. I find it a little too long.

Just learning lap steel. Had a lapdawg bar but for a beginner it gets easily hung up on strings when going low to high across the fretboard. This Shubbs bar with its one bullet-nose end glides perfectly. Problem solved! Plus it still has a squared-off end for hammer-ons when desired. It’s also comfortable to hold with the nice finger grooves and has enough weight for decent tone, without getting too heavy for comfort and a good ergonomic length. Plus it’s a good value price-wise. All-around winner!

I do have a more expensive tone bar that I like and will continue to use. But this 5.6 oz. Shubb SP-2 has become my favorite. To me, the additional length and weight improves control, tone and comfort in the hand. Also, having different radiuses at the ends helps with single-note play as well as sliding across the strings without catching. Would I buy it again? I did! My wife tried my SP-2 today during her practice time and was impressed enough to say, "Order one of these for me".Obviously, do your own research - but I doubt you could go wrong with this tone bar.

First off let me say this is my first Dobro Steel Slide and I haven't been playing all that long. Since I am learning and probably will always be learning, it was essential to me to find at least a decent steel slide at the beginning of the journey. This one fits my hand. That is one of the big concerns in my opinion. It needs to be comfortable. And it is for me. But I understand that it might not be comfortable for everyone. The second concern is how easy it is to move around. I have had no problem with that at all. It lands where I put it and the sound is clear. There is one caution I would like to add. Don't drop it on a slate floor. It is heavy and STEEL. It didn't fall out of my hand. It got knocked off a desktop where I put it after practicing. It didn't even mar the finish on it. The slate floor however.....You won't know until you actually try it, if this is one of the ones for you.

Very comfortable to use and makes playing easier than the Dunlop Bar I've been using.

This is the cat's ass in lap steel bars. Classy look, lighter weight than most bars, and fits the hand superbly. Makes me want to play lap style more often.

I've been playing steel guitars for about 40 years. For most of that time, I've used cylindrical, bullet-nosed bars, and I still do for some music on some instruments.About three years ago, arthritis and some new original music caused me to look beyond the bullet. I obtained an original USA-made Shubb-Pearse SP2, and found that it suited my new needs very well. While not as well-suited to conventional forward and reverse slants as the bullet bars, the SP2 proved superior (in MY left hand, at least) for bending strings behind the bar and for split slants. I also discovered that I could make good use of the squared-off end for pulloffs. The original SP2 was chrome-plated brass. After a couple of years of frequent use, the plating began wearing away from gripping surfaces. This did not bother me. Also, the strings had scored fine lines on the playing surface. This did bother me, as the bar made more noise while sliding along the strings.I was pleased to hear that Shubb had begun making the SP2 in stainless steel, but I was reluctant to order one from a musical instrument vendor because of uncertainty as to whether I'd receive a new stainless steel bar or a new old stock chromed brass one. Amazon's unambiguous statement that the SP2 it was offering is made in China removed all doubt that I'd receive a current-production bar. There are small, subtle differences between the stainless and plated brass iterations: - The stainless bar is longer than the brass one (probably by about 2 mm, but I didn't measure) and lighter (154 grams vs. 161). - The sharp edges of the ridges that form the finger groove atop the bar are now flared outward rather than upward.None of the changes in shape made any significant sonic or tactile difference to me, except that the new one may prove to be slightly more comfortable over a long session.Only time will tell whether the stainless SP2 will become as noisy as quickly as the plated brass version did.
