Nice journal, like the way it opens flat. Just what I wanted.

Excellent songwriting book! Lyrics and staff for the music side by side, what a concept! Never seen one before, had to have it, already getting well used. Hard to fathom why it took so long for somebody to think of this. Or maybe I just finally found it?

We gave this to our grandson for Christmas. He’s a budding songwriter so hope this will help him.

I got this as a gift. The wrapping has an ad in the front of the book that looks like you may be getting colored full handout charts. As a teach it would have been awesome if that were true. But….. it’s mini non colored charts glued to the inside cover of the book. Overall not bad but it could have been so much better. Look for other options but if this is all you find that fits your needs it does the bare minimum.Side note, it did come damaged with dents and beat up cover

I'm not ordinarily fond of synthetic leathers, but this journal looks and feels very nice indeed, with a varied camel coloring that looks authentically vegetable tanned and a hand that's convincingly close to the texture of smooth aniline leather; even the embossed logo on the cover looks like real stamped leather. The cover is beautifully stitched and the binding is tight, with a clever little elastic pen loop on the contrast black spine (best for slender pens with a tapered end or can be used to just hook a pen clip through, though the hold is less secure that way).I always appreciate a journal that lies flat when open and stays closed when closed, and this one satisfies on both counts with its elastic band closure and large-format (8.5 x 11 inch) pages. It's fairly weighty, too, at around 1 lb 10 oz (750 g).The charts and references printed on the front endpaper and back flyleaf may not be needed by veteran songwriters but will certainly come in handy for students and are not obtrusive, being only two pages in total. There's a small manila pocket inside the back cover for tucking away loose notes and scraps of paper; the folding sides of the pocket are fabric to help prevent tearing.Throughout the journal, rectos (right-hand pages) are for musical notation, with the last 20 pages having added notation space for intro, verse, chorus, bridge, and outro. Versos (left pages) are widely lined for lyrics and notes at intervals of 1 cm /28 points, which is wider than I'd have chosen but has the merit of allowing plenty of room for editing. Most of the printing is in greyscale, as is common in journals so the lines don't compete with your text and notations, with recto page headers (Song and Tempo/Feel) printed in 100% black. Pages are a medium text weight and smooth, with little tooth, to allow for writing finer lines with less bleed.Bottom line: If your songwriting journal were ever to go on display for posterity, you certainly wouldn't be ashamed to have it be this one; meanwhile, it provides plenty of pages for scribbling and scoring. Highly recommended.

I purchased this notebook, and it's very nice... but I didn't notice before purchasing that the "Staff" on each page is actually six lines for guitar TAB. Only the last group of pages shows a proper staff over TAB guides.Otherwise, the notebook looks nice and is well constructed. It's just not what I was expecting.

If all this turned out to be was a notebook with staff paper and reasonably nice faux leather, I'd have been perfectly happy. However, it's so much more than that. • The vegan leather is excellent quality, and has good scratch resistance; I expect it should continue looking good for some time to come. • The pages appear to be stitched rather than glued to the binding, which is another reassuring touch. • There’s a gusseted pocket on the inside of the back cover, which comes in handy for any stray notes or other ephemera you might collect in your travels. • There are also numerous reference charts for song structure, Roman numeral and Nashville notation, major and minor chords, a piano keyboard diagram, fretboard references for guitar and ukulele, a Circle of Fifths, and the notes of the grand staff. The only omission, and it’s a minor one, is that it might’ve been nice to have a reference for some of the more obscure notation and terminology. • Regarding the “main” pages, they break down into three different types. There are plain blank lined pages, good for note taking and lyric writing. There are also regular staff lines, and others labeled for tab; the two latter types have room for a date, title, and tempo/feel, with the tab pages further featuring sections where you can label the section of the song (intro/verse/chorus/bridge/outro). • Finally, you’ll also find a number of QR codes that take you to lessons of varying types. I haven’t tried these and can’t speak to their quality, but I will say that if the same level of thought has been put into them that was put into this book, they should be useful. The verdict: as an amateur musician, I’m more than satisfied with this. I can also see, however, where someone with a bit more experience could get even more mileage from it. It’s practical enough for just about anyone with musical aspirations, and attractive enough to make a great gift for anyone who’s given songwriting a thought.
