We got this to top off a battery to our van that has a slow drain on the battery. It works great to keep the battery topped off. It doesn't take up a lot of space, but it does pull in adequate solar to keep the battery charged. I'm not sure whether it would work to charge a battery that is really low, but it will maintain against a slow discharge.

4.5 stars, this solar trickle charger works, but it feels a little on the cheap side. Granted, I'd rather pay for this trickle charger than have to dole out $350 for a new car battery - so if you're in a bit of a pickle like me, this works well. You get suction cups in case you want to stick this panel on your windshield, there are also hooks provided, too.The long wires, while messy, allow you to put this trickle charger on the top of your car if that's better.Personally, I'm happy with how well this trickle charger works. Because of this solar charger, I don't need to run a 50' + extension cable down my driveway to my car for my old plug-in trickle charger.Normally my car will send me alerts when the battery is so low that it turns off system monitoring. So far, I've not received that alert since using this charger.

I ordered this MHPOWOS solar charger for two different applications. The first is for my trolling motor on my boat. My main batteries are charged by the engine alternator but the trolling motor battery is stand-alone and must be recharged (and ideally, maintained) after each use. I hate having a long cord running from the house to my boat/trickle charger/battery. The second application is during my annual fishing trip to the back country of Baja, Mexico. In Baja, if your vehicle battery gets discharged or otherwise fails, you’re going to face a long walk to summon someone who can provide a jump. Ask me how I know. Yup, been there, done that. Having said all that, I still wanted to test out this device on a battery that was at least somewhat low. My trolling motor battery was actually topped off, so I checked the battery in my Dodge Dakota that has been sitting around in the snow for a week. My multimeter showed I had 12.8V. I hooked up the charger with the alligator clips and hung the solar panel over the truck quarter-panel in bright afternoon sun (appx. 40 degrees). After approximately 25 minutes I checked the battery with the multimeter and saw I was already at 14.76V. Wow! I was very surprised at how quickly this solar powered trickle charger had boosted my battery. On a day-to-day basis I plan to leave it hooked up to my trolling motor battery when the boat is not in use. The charger has over-charge protection built in and the panel is weatherproof. Another reviewer commented on the silly 9’+ separate cables coming from the panel. I agree that these conductors should be a singe/joint cable. I’ll just wrap mine in zip ties. The price point (~$50) is very reasonable for the convenience of my boat application and the safety factor of my back country application. Easy five stars in spite of the separate wires.

I have several trailers that have 12 V batteries on them for accessory items such as winches and hydraulic pumps to run a dump trailer. I like to keep these batteries charged however, they’re not at a location near power. These panels do a great job of keeping the batteries topped off for use, and ensuring that the battery voltage stays up so they are not ruined between uses. This solar panel does a good job of doing just that. Several different options for cables are nice along with the suction cups. Most of the time I more permanently mount the solar panel using silicone or screws, since I want to be sure that it will not blow off while using the trailer.I think this is a good product, and I would order it again

This solar panel came securely packaged, with everything needed to hook up to your 12v battery. The three types of cables (alligator clips, O-ring connectors, and “cigarette lighter” power port plug) are all conveniently attached to the solar panel via SAE connectors, which all include weatherproof covers (a nice touch.) There are also a couple of carabiners and four suction cups to help mount the panel.I bought this to keep the battery on my riding lawnmower topped up, so I connected the O-ring cable to the battery and ran the cable to a safe place to keep it permanently attached when not charging the battery. The battery has been sitting in the mower for over a month without running (being winter here), and the battery was really low from self-discharge and cold temperatures. When I put the panel in the sunlight, the various LEDs on the back lit up as expected. Once I connected the solar charger to the battery, all the LEDs turned off. The documentation says all the LEDs are off if there's no sunlight or if there's a short-circuit - and we had bright sunshine while testing.I checked the voltage of the battery and saw that it was really low (under 9 volts), and this charger can't charge a really dead battery (as I assume the heavy current draw would look like a short.) I brought out a plug-in battery charger and brought the battery back up to the normal 12+ volt range and tried again. With the battery mostly charged, I tried again, and the solar panel LEDs now show that it is charging. I can see the voltage on the battery (slowly) rising, so it appears to be trickle charging the battery.Overall, the device looks like it will work out well to keep the lawnmower battery full. One thing I really DIDN'T LIKE was the 9.8 foot long cable coming out of the back of the solar panel. Instead of a two-conductor cable (like a typical power cord) it comes with two separate cables, only joined together with the connector at the end. I used electrical tape to bind the two wires together periodically to keep it from being a rat's nest of wire. Cable ties would also work, but that should really be a two-pair cable.I'll post photos of before and after, but I have to knock the rating down for using single wires.Actual rating: 4.5 for functionality, 4.0 for the awful single-wire cable mess.
