Protect yourself against snake bite while in the desert or woods! THOUSANDS of people are bitten by venomous snakes (mostly rattlesnakes, copperheads and water moccasins) in the United States each year. Rattlesnakes possess a set of fangs with which they can inject large quantities of toxic venom. The venom travels through the bloodstream, destroying tissue and causing swelling, internal bleeding, and intense pain. Even non-fatal bites can cause severe pain and long-lasting tissue damage. Don't take a chance! Protect your lower legs whenever you're in snake country! TurtleSkin SnakeArmor Snake Gaiters are constructed from a super-tight patented weave of high-strength ballistic fibers and polyester. Most snake gaiters are heavy, stiff, and bulky. Weighing less than 6 ounces each, these gaiters are one-third the weight of other snake gaiters, yet are tested to repel even large rattlesnakes. Reversible design (khaki / camo). Made in USA. Regular size: 20 inches Top of Calf, 17 inches Ankle, 16 inches Length. Many snake gaiters on the market are not foldable, however if you are backpacking or want to save storage space, you'll appreciate that the Turtleskin SnakeArmor brand folds to approx. 8 x 8 x 2 inches. Turtleskin SnakeArmor system stopped a simulated snake strike of paired 0.05” diameter needles weighing a total of 150 grams at 0.63 joules. The system also stopped a simulated snake bite of a 0.042” diameter needle at 1.49 pounds with a penetration limit of 0.03”. U.S. Patents 5,565,264 and 5,837,623 and other patents pending apply.

These are light weight and work well in hot climates. I use them to hike in Arizona during snake season.

My husband is a Forrester and is walking in the woods almost every single day. He has had several different pairs of these, but likes these the best. They have held up for a very long time which is saying a lot because my husband is very rough on boots and pants and other things. They have lasted him over two years, being used almost weekly to walk around and not only protect him from snakes, but also briars and other things he comes across.

I really wanted to like these, but I can't and I am returning them. They are amazing at first glance, super light, super flexible and nicely made. The problem is they just don't work on any of my boots. It says they fit a 17" ankle, and yes they do technically, but in practice they don't. Most of my boots are 16 - 16 1/2" and just under 17" with jeans on at the ankle, which the manufacturer claims they fit. The trouble is these are so small and tight at the ankle that you have to really pull them and stretch them over the boot and they constantly ride up because it's to tight of a fit. It's like stretching something onto a cone, it will also ride up the cone. There are eyelits to tie these down to your boots and yes these do hold the front down, but they do not hold down the back. On some of my medium boots, they slip up so high that I have an inch of exposed meat for the snakes to bite and that is just with walking around my house testing them. I think in the description there should be a caution statement about how much these can ride up if you are 16" or more on the boot, but still below 17". They are also pretty tall and wide at the top, to much for my liking. After buying these, I learned they make a bigger size but I can't imagine that working either because then the tops will be ridiculously wide for my calfs and way to tall. When I say these regulars are tall, I am 6'3" and they ride up so high off my boots that they they hit the bottom of my knee joint and and it's not comfortable wearing shorts. In full disclosure I wear a size 13 boot, but I'm still under the claimed 17" ankle. I'm hoping the manufacturer reads this and does something to improve these because they have the potential to be an amazing product and for anyone wearing smaller boots, they probably are great. Widening the bottom would help immensily, as would having an adjustable nylon cord, including a strap to slip under your boot would also help a lot.

These gaiters are very expensive, but I would rather pay the money and be safe than sorry. They are very flexible, durable, and easy to use. The two design drawbacks I see are:1. The limitations of the drawstring at the top. The fabric doesn't gather well and one of my drawstrings pulled out of my older set after a number of years. I had to re-insert and sew it in.2. The relatively short flap to protect the top of your boot/shoe. I wish this was longer and possibly wider.I feel both of these could use redesign. That said, my original set is still in great shape and brings a lot of safety when walking through snake country!

I hike hundreds of miles per year in the southwest where rattlesnake encounters are not uncommon. Even though the odds of getting bit are low, I'm often a long distance / hours away from help in the event I did get bit. These gaiters provide peace of mind and are so lightweight, flexible and comfortable that I often forget I'm even wearing them. They are also incredibly effective against cactus spines and other thorny plants (i.e., basically all the plants that grow here). My only criticism is the finicky zippers that just don't work reliably, to the point that I remove my shoes to put them on / take them off rather than mess with the zippers.

These are surprisingly comfortable. I thought I would hate wearing these, but I actually find them a good piece of gear that protects me from snakes (I actually brushed my leg against the head of a big blacktail rattlesnake....accidentally of course, I was in super thick tall grass and didn't see the snake until my friend hiking behind me yelled snake and saw my leg hit the snakes head!). These also protect against thorns and ticks and other things, so I am super happy with this purchase. I work in Arizona and wore these during heat waves and all summer and was able to continue wearing them despite working in hot conditions. You can't wear snake gaiters without getting hotter than you would without them on, but there were tolerable!

Have not been bitten so can't say they work, but I won't complain about that. For snake gaiters they are very flexible and easy to hike in and will give you the confidence you need to hike in snake territory. They are HOT!. Because of the material they are not breathable and your legs will sweat A LOT. You need to consider all of the effects of this and make your decisions accordingly. Sweat on the lower leg ends up in the socks and on your feet/in your boots. Your feet will not be as comfortable if you hike more than 10 miles and you will need to change socks on hikes you otherwise would not have to. Also, hold down technology is a little lacking. There are 3 eyelets you need to weave your laces through on the tongue portion and as a result it does;t anchor to my boot in the back the way I like in some other gaiters. You can fix it with some ingenuity, but the out of box design isn;t the best. Also, I got the large version and would say it runs big. They advertise it to calf height and at 6'"1 with a 20" calf height the large is really to tall for me and I need to roll it down at the top. Not a big deal at all, but knowing that going in I would have bought the regular size.Don't take comments as lack of love for the product. Sweaty calves and feet are a small price to pay for confidence hiking alone in the Southeast. Just know that not wearing a leather boot compromises the whole set up.
