Product Description

Smooth-On Universal Mold Release Agent
rubber mold release

Universal Mold Release Agent is formulated especially for mold making and casting, and works well with most liquid rubber and liquid plastic products. It will release mold rubbers (such as polyurethanes and polysulfides) from properly prepared models. Sealing porous models (wood, plaster, concrete) or certain modeling clays (containing water or sulfur) with Smooth-On SuperSeal or other sealer (such as spray shellac) may be necessary. Universal Mold Release is effective over a broad temperature range from 70°F to 500°F.

If using silicone rubber, seal model surface with SuperSea only. Do not use Universal Mold Release. Universal Mold Release also easily releases a variety of casting materials (epoxies, Smooth-On liquid plastics, etc.) from cured rubber molds. This product has a limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible. Properly used, Universal Mold Release improves molding efficiency for a variety of casting applications and will actually lengthen the life of your production mold.

CONTENTS FLAMMABLE: Keep product away from flame and all ignition sources. Use this product in a properly ventilated area with at least room size ventilation. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves and rubber gloves to minimize contamination risk. Store and use material at room temperature (73°F/23°C). Apply a Sealing Agent if Necessary - Porous surfaces (concrete, plaster, etc.) often require a sealing agent followed by a release agent when releasing liquid mold making materials. Follow directions on the mold material technical bulletin before proceeding.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question. Refer to technical bulletin for more information available at Smooth-on website.

I have a few large silicone molds for projects. I used to use epoxy tape to prevent sticking of the epoxy in the seams. I didn't think a release spray would work and didn't want to lose my project (or the mold) because of bound epoxy. I finally used this on the sides of one of the molds because the silicone surface had some scratches that might promote sticking. The spray worked so well that I only used it for the next new pour. There was essentially no sticking. The piece popped out so easily ... I'll never go back to tape for this. I recommend it strongly and will continue to buy. No complaints; great product.

This made it easy. I used it for a large epoxy river table. I sprayed it as the instructions said, wiped it down and sprayed another coat just to be safe. After the pour, the mold popped right off.

I use this mold release for epoxy resin projects. I've never had any issues when using it - everything always comes out cleanly! The only thing I would say is maybe to either use it in a well ventilated area or wear a mask when spraying it (it doesn't have a super strong odor or anything, it just gets all in the air). Other than that I love it! Also the cans last a long time for me - you don't need much product.

I use this product every day in my shop, to create resin castings. I am a professional mold maker, and model maker. Smooth-On products are the best in opinion, and their signature mold release spray is very easy to use. I make silicone and urethane molds for studio scale models, so the spray is very convenient. It goes on evenly, sets up in 5 minutes, and releases the castings very easily.

The first thing I can say about this product is that it works. I used it to release urethane rubber from various types of molds. The nozzle stays clean even if I forget to wipe it down/clear it. It has a very even, fast spray meaning it only takes a half second to evenly coat a small to medium sized mold, and with the amount in this can it'll probably expire before I use it all. It does have a smell and you're not supposed to breathe in the fumes (work in a well ventilated area per the instructions) but the smell wasn't unpleasant, just strong, and it dissipated quickly. I didn't have any problems with beading or running together even if I put a generous coat on. It does leave the object molded slightly greasy/oily, but for a clean extraction it's a very, very small price to pay. Just wipe it down and you're good to go. I didn't use it with any other types of molding materials, just urethane rubber, so take my glowing review with a grain of salt.
