I had no idea that this was metal until I opened the box and wow what a surprise. This unit is solid and doesn't put a bunch of noise through the body and in my microphone, I mounted to the top cold shoe. Yeah, the two cold shoes are great. I use one for the mic and the other for my light. It holds my smartphone great and the handles connect with thumb screws that also have a notch so they set tight into the frame and don't move around. I did have to take my phone out of its case but that's because my phone case was super thick and removing it just made my phone fit snugger in the frame. 100% buy this. I wish I had two and I just might buy another. Can't beat the price at well under $10 it's a steal.

It fits my Note 9 and 24S Ultra... I did use some of the foam included to pad a little more. But all in all great buy. For that crazy price.
