I recently got a bike booster conversion kit from a major seller, something I had been eyeing for years while waiting for the next generation to be released. Along with the booster kit, they were also selling a smart helmet that was quite similar to this one but at nearly twice the price. At the time, I couldn’t justify the added cost, so I held off. That’s why I was overjoyed to find this JDBMAOYE bike helmet, which offers much of the same functionality at a far more reasonable price. With today’s bikes, e-bikes, and scooters becoming faster than ever, proper safety gear is no longer optional—it’s essential. This helmet offers protection on two fronts. First and foremost, it functions as a well-constructed helmet, designed to be tested only once in a crash, as any helmet should be. The protective shell is sturdy, well-fitted, and comfortable for long rides. But beyond its primary function, this helmet also incorporates an important safety feature—integrated lighting for visibility, making it far easier for drivers and fellow cyclists to see you on the road. There is always a bit of a concern when electronics are added to safety gear, particularly when the gear itself is meant to be a one-time-use device in the event of an accident. But in this case, the electronics don’t interfere with the core function of the helmet, nor do they significantly add to the cost. What they do add is a massive increase in visibility and communication on the road, which may actually help you avoid testing the helmet’s impact protection in the first place. The built-in light screen serves multiple purposes. It provides a general awareness signal to those around you, flashing red in a diamond pattern, or any other active warning you program, even when you’re not actively signaling. The lighting system isn’t high-definition, nor should it be—you don’t want a display that’s so detailed it becomes a distraction. Instead, it’s designed to be simple but effective, ensuring that drivers and pedestrians take note of your presence.Where this helmet truly stands out is its ability to signal turns and braking through the remote control system. The included remote can be mounted on your bike in a semi-permanent way while still allowing for easy removal when needed. Once paired, it automatically connects to the helmet, eliminating the need for a phone-based connection during regular rides. This means you don’t have to rely on an app to use the essential safety features, which is a huge plus for those who prefer to keep things simple. That being said, if you do like the added customization of an app, this helmet offers that too. You can fine-tune various lighting settings and even program low-definition animations to enhance your visibility. The app has a bit of a learning curve, and while I grasped the basics within a few minutes, mastering the customization features will take some time. For now, I’m content with the default settings, which already provide an effective level of visibility and safety. One of my favorite things about this helmet is how much it increases my confidence when riding in areas with vehicle traffic. Having clear, visible turn signals makes a world of difference when sharing the road with cars. It reduces ambiguity, especially in low-light conditions where traditional hand signals might not be seen. The brake light function is also a fantastic addition—it’s something cars have always had, but bikes rarely do. The fact that this helmet provides a way to communicate stopping intentions to those behind you is a feature I never realized I needed until I had it.While not overly complicated, setup does require some patience, especially when customizing the lighting display through the app. Some users might prefer a simpler, more plug-and-play experience. Another minor concern is battery life. While the helmet does last a decent amount of time per charge, it’s another device to remember to charge regularly. Forgetting to do so means losing the lighting features, though the helmet itself remains fully functional as protective gear.Overall, this is an excellent helmet for the price. It provides solid protection, improves visibility, and offers smart safety features that can make a real difference on the road. While the setup takes some getting used to, and battery management is a small consideration, these are minor trade-offs for the benefits it provides. I feel safer wearing this helmet, and that alone makes it worth the investment. Four stars, simply because the setup could be a bit more intuitive, but otherwise, it’s an outstanding product.
