I’ve been using this for an while and I agree with others that it’s mostly a great addition to a mobile creator’s kit, despite having some slight annoyances. This is something that’s just easy to take out and use for me, but it is still a bit awkward unless you have enough clearance for the hub and phone on your cage. It works for me fine to record video, a plugged in powered microphone, and charge the device at the same time (plus have an extra port left over). While you can find similar hubs that may or may not meet your needs better, this one is particularly notable for its smaller size overall and a USB-C host cable (attached to the hub) that fits into my phone with a case on. The built quality is up to adequate standards, though nothing I would gish about: it’s just good enough, nothing more.Unfortunately, having an attached cable means that it has to bend quite a bit, which isn’t necessarily ideal, but it seems to be holding up just fine. Hope this helps!

This is an excellent addition to my rig.As it is a Smallrig product, I trust it to deliver what it claims. I like being able to have all the USB-C cables permanently mounted to the cage and then use this to connect one cable to the power source.

The adaptor itself works great. I can run two usb 2.0 devices through it and one 3.1 while providing my unit power. I like the metal housing and the clip that can slide into a standard cold shoe mount. My troubles are with the tolerances for the housing, which creates a slight rattle when the cord is jostled and with the length of the cord which is too short to go from the end of my phone to the cold shoe mount on my particular camera rig. It'll be great in other instances, like with my mirrorless cameras, but since it was specifically designed for phones, I find it a bit of a letdown that I have to come up with some kind of modification in order to get this to work.

If you are doing smartphone videography with iPhone, Samsung, or Google smartphones, they all make great videos. But you will love having a very useful gadget like this one for adding the accessory items you will need. The Smallrig 4 in 1 hub plugs into the USB-C port of your smartphone with a dedicated right-angle cable and provides 4 USB-C ports for various connections:> one PD = high power 100W charging port, connects to your power adapter> two USB 2.0 = handles up to 480 Mbps, for audio (microphone or headphone) or video> one USB 3.1 = high speed 10 Gbps data transfer port, for shooting ProRes 4K/60p videos (SSD storage)I love this little Smallrig 4 in 1 USB-C hub. It quickly solved one of my most vexing problems. I couldn't insert an external Bluetooth microphone into the USB-C port of my Samsung phone because of the thick Moment case I use.I had been going through the hassle of taking the Samsung out of the Moment case, but doing it was such a pain that I was getting lazy and my videos were suffering. Now, all I have to do is insert the cable end of this hub, which thankfully has a plug that is long enough to get all the way into the Samsung port despite the Moment case. I then insert the microphone receiver into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the hub and I get instant mic recognition (as I had previously done the first time BT connection on the phone). The remote transmitter operates as normal, it doesn't seem to mind that the receiver is plugged into the intermediate hub device.I also tested to see if I could insert my little 1 TB SSD drive into the hub. Again, all I did was insert the USB-C cable from the SSD drive into the second USB 2.0 port of the hub. Instantly recognized the drive and I could pull up the SSD files from the Files app on my Samsung.I didn't test the high speed USB 3.1 port but if I start shooting with the Blackmagic Cinema Pro app in 4k then that will come in handy for storing videos onto the SSD drive. The hub has an interesting little clamp on the bottom. If you are using a phone cage, the clamp allows for the hub to be connected to your rig's cold shoe by sliding it in or it can be clamped to a slim piece of rail. And the hub is very small and is plug and play, no drivers needed. This is a fantastic addition to any smartphone videographer's kit. I highly recommend it. If you are shooting high res 4k recordings, you will definitely need it to attach your SSD drive, microphone, and power to your smartphone's USB-C port.

This is a great find! My phone recognized it immediately. The clip doubles as a cold shoe, so you have a lot of versatility when placing it on your cage. You also get plenty of extra ports for chargers, lights, storage...really anything you need for a rig.An excellent value!

This is a pure USB 2.0 hub with PD passthrough for one port, and USB 3.x passthrough to another.Construction is decent. The circuit board sits on a plastic carrier so the aluminum shell is well supported. The clip is attached to two plastic bits poking through the shell so that might not hold up.The cable is about 18.5cm long. The plug has a long extension at the right angle tip, so it should reach through most cases.I wanted to use with a Surface Go tablet attached to the kickstand. The clip is a good size for thin surfaces like that, but the cable was a bit short to position it well. Also the clip is positioned opposite the cable.I tried to use this to attach a portable USB C display (displayport alternate mode). It would not work on the PD port, or the 3.1 port. Looks like only the 3.x data pairs, USB 2.x wires, and CC pin are connected. The sideband use channels are missing. Seems like an odd choice since the LDR6023Q appears to support DP alt mode, but maybe it would have required extra components.I tried the hub with my android phone, but I could not charge and use hub devices at the same time. This worked fine on my normal PC laptop/tablet.Some of the chips inside:C* 3419 Y2416 - Some kind of mosfet for PD power control, 2 in parallelHS8845B - USB 2.0 hub controllerLegendary LDR6023Q - USB Type-C PD ControllerNDP23501KC - Adjustable DC-DC Stepdown converterVIA VL162 - USB-C 2:4 Data mux switch wih CC function
