About this item

  • Slice 10589 Craft Knife, Finger-Friendly Edge, Safer Choice, Never Rusts, Lasts 11x Longer Than Metal, Precision Cutting, Never-Lost Safety Cap

The Slice Craft Knife (Safety Cap) includes the same safety blade as the 10548 model, but also features our innovative safety cap. You’ll never lose the protective covering for the Slice 10589 because it’s part of the handle design. To expose the blade, twist the cap to unlock it, slide it down the handle and twist again to keep it out of the way while you work. The Slice Craft Knife (Safety Blade) uses the same replaceable blades as the 10548 knife with the same great safety features: finger-friendly, non-sparking, chemically inert, safe up to 1600 degrees Celsius, and never rusting.

This is the perfect craft cutter knife. It's absolutely amazing for cutting and crafting. I use it a lot for scraping whiskers in my cat and dog drawings. Makes perfect whiskers all the time. Very safe to use. Love it.

This is an absolute must for when drawing wildlife using colored pencils. Does not damage the paper, unless pressure is too strong. Otherwise, it is a must tool in one's art supply box. I love it!

While I would not allow a child under 9 or 10 to use this, it's safe for the rest of us. I am terrified of Xacto knives because they are really sharp and have that point tip. I am not particularly clumsy, but I don't take chances when I can sense the impending bloodshed about to happen. So I got this lovely little safe thing. You will not cut yourself with it if you try, but it is great for opening envelopes, boxes, packages, and scoring paper. I also use it for details on sketches, knowing the sketch will survive, and so will I. Years ago I cut myself badly with an Xacto, accidentally, and that was enough!!!Then I found these. This is not my first purchase. It will not be my last. I try to have one in the carry-alls for each of my separate projects. These are safe. No ER visits with these, unless you do something waaaaay on the thin edge of the bell curve of potential accidents.EDIT: Uh, it will not cut your finger, but it will papercut the back of your hand. Thin skin can be cut, so keep that in mind. It is after all a type of knife.

It really works well! I found it hard to believe when I read about them, but it’s true - its hard edge cuts paper and card with no trouble, but not your fingers. I’m very happy with it.

I purchased the product because I am a teacher and I was looking for a craft knife that I could use with 10-12 year olds that would be safer than exacto blades? These blades are definately much safer. But they don't cut through cardboard or foam board very well. Students have to learn to make repeated passes with the knife to get through. It was a challenge getting students to appreciate and do this. Some did and complained their hand cramped from the tool. Others just tried to overcome the material with heavy force using the tool to tear through foam board. Others lifted the material and used a stabbing and sawing technique. Because the blade wasn't sharp enough the young people started using it in ways that were not safe.I think these blades are probably good for some uses, learning to cut paper thin materials. I'm using them to teach the kids about how to hold and cut with a knife safely before turning them loose with exacto blades which I know are riskier. I realize that the idea that a blade can be safe is kind of misleading and I was seduced by the advertising of this product to overlook my own commonsense. Commonsense things that are important for safety when considering using blades with kids: Do the kids have enough self-control, and can they be serious while working with the blades? Have the kids been taught how to use the blades safely? Is the space set up to minimize accidents? Are their clear expectations for using the knifes? Are there adults in the room monitoring responding to the young people to help them learn to be safe with knives? Is it possible to make a blade that won't easily cut skin, but at the same time easily cuts cardboard?

The handle really feels nice, not too fat, not too skinny and well balanced.Paper, vinyl and leather all cut very well. It’s entirely possible that it’s the best leather cutting knife I’ve ever used.It also cuts wooden veneers extremely well, even cross grain cuts are clean and it follows the cut line very well. I am a professional conservator of antique furniture and veneers are a big part of my life. This knife definitely has a permanent home in my toolchest. The caveats: It won’t cut unsupported material (material not laying on something else) it just slides across it.You can’t scrape with it. Scraping excess glue and other stuff off of furniture is a daily operation for me and this blade won’t do it (not for long anyway). The edge chips away quickly. There is a sharp point on the blade, but it’s not in the same place as a #11 blade. In use that makes it feel weird if you’ve spent a lifetime using #11 blades, so you have to get used to that.Overall I like the knife. I think the blades are too expensive, but they are worth it. In the situations where this works it really works well. But it’s not a viable replacement for a regular X-Acto. You need both.

The blade feels thicker/duller than a metal blade, but it cuts just fine. I believe that's the whole ideal about having a safe cutting tool.A lovely tool that's perfect for carving, slicing, or trimming plastic, rubber, foam, and more with ultimate precision.Perfect craft tool for graphic artists, designers and arts and crafts applications – scrapbooking, model kits, and more. I bought this to create party favors and cutout a "photo frame" that people could use in a photo booth. As well as the the curved blade so I could be more precise in my cuts.Used with They not only function well but cut safely. I don't have to worry about cutting my fingers or accidents as much as a metal blade. Well thought out.
