The SINGER®X5004HD serger saves time by sewing a seam and seam finish at the same time, while trimming away the excess seam allowance. Features 2 threads, 3 threads, or 4 threads for a variety of stitch combinations. With a 60% larger cutting knife than other SINGER® sergers, the X5004HD cuts thicker fabrics with ease.
The Heavy Duty metal frame provides a strong foundation for skip-free sewing, and the stainless steel bed plate lets fabric glide smoothly as you sew.

I grew up around Singer, but when started sewing bought Brother because it is cheaper, still own 2. But replacing my last Serger was an ordeal, had to return 2, one the thread from the needles tangled and the front cover broke. The second, one month after fighting to make a good loop and sew I read reviews that was a current problem for everyone, plus had an awful inside noise, so... returned as well. Will not try a Chinese Brother again. Decided to spend a little more and bought this Singer. Was amazed that it didn't come threaded and no instructions booklet, no additional foot, and just a brush. Printed the instructions from internet, and checked videos for the threading. Slightless user friendly than Brother. But this is sturdy, doesn't dance all around the table. Sits well and I can even use the lint bag. So far is sewing wonderfully and less noisy. You can tell it's "the" brand. Hope it continues all good. Just a few days so far, will update my review if something goes wrong, for now happy with my purchase. This is made in Vietnam.Update, September 30, very frustrating can't "guess" the settings, because the booklet doesn't help, is vague and doesn't sew as expected, unfortunately the return window finished. I'm losing so much time trying to make it work. 😪

Threading: it does not come pre-threaded but the color coding made it easy to thread all the spools. The first guide was a little confusing using the instructions but using common sense it all became clear. The provided tweezer is not the correct shape and type to assist with threading so you need to get the one with the angled tip.The housing: the plastic feels cheap and not sturdy. Time will tell as to how well it holds up. This contributes to the lighter weight. I have a serger from 30 years ago and it works just like on day one but I bought this as an option based on "heavy duty" in order to sew thicker fabrics. The presser foot: it barely lifts up. I don't know if that's how it is meant to be or if my unit is mal-assembled. The only way to know is to check the presser foot lever and that has a low profile so it is also barely "visible" when you feel for it. I haven't sewn a heavy duty project so cannot speak to how well or how thick it handles thick fabrics.Noise: it is comparable to machines this size but it could be dampened a bit if the housing was made differently. It is noticeably louder compared to my older serger, has a sharper metallic turn instead of a smooth oiled turn.Size and weight: looks small for a heavy duty but then I put it side by side with my old serger to compare and it is bigger by about 10% - 15%. It is comparable in weight so again time will tell if the motor will perform as advertised as a metal heavy duty motor ought to be heavier purely by size.Overall, I am satisfied with the unit, just wish I could be excitedly happy.

Easy to use and portable. When trying to thread for the first time, it’s a challenge. But once you overcome that first threading, it’s not difficult at all. This machine makes beautiful stitches, and is perfect for a beginner. Its lightweight material makes it easy to transport or move.

Here's my story: I worked hard to save up for a serger. I finally had enough money and was deciding between this one and the one from Joann’s. I got the one from Joann’s because it was $50 cheaper. When it arrived, it was broken and sounded like a blender. Joann’s has a return policy that states once it is opened, it cannot be returned. I did some arts and crafts and was able to get the serger returned, thankfully. I then decided to get this one, and it arrived and works great.

Just like my heavy-duty Singer sewing machine! I GREAT DEAL FOR THE MONEY TOO!SINGER HEAVY-DUTY PRODUCTS ARE FANTASTIC!

This machine is fantastic! Yes, it’s a serger. Yes, these machines are a little tricky to thread. Yes, you need a manual to learn how to thread it.Don’t be like the other reviewers and lose your mind because the manual isn’t in the box. It’s a digital download easily accessible on the Singer website. If it doesn’t come up the first time you search for it, try searching in google. I promise the manual exists.Threading is challenging if you’re a newbie but practice makes perfect. This machine is fast and efficient. It took me a few tires to get my thread tension right but that’s user error - not a machine issue.I also really love the suction feet on the bottom of the machine. Helps it stay securely in place while in use.Fantastic machine! The quality you’d expect from Singer.

I dont know much about sergers, but damn does this work well! There’s something so satisfying at serging fabric. It just runs so smoothly! At first I didnt use a manual since the ones on the sites were kind of like « distorted »? Like all the letters were spread out and stuff so it was unreadable. But there are tons of great tutorials on youtube which I find are a lot easier to understand than a handbook. I did manage to find a manual later which helped for little details when you get more into it. It is already threaded, but I would highly recommend learning how to set it up yourself. If you’re like me and you start prematuraly without looking up instructions, it will f*up and the threads will break or tangle and you’ll need to rethread all of it. You can’t go « around » that. Also there are so many fun and cool ways to use this serger, it would be a shame not to use them for all your different projects!

Initially I thought it had been used because it came prethreaded but they do that for convenience. It also came with some canvas to practice on. There’s no manual, just a slip of paper saying where to find it. I did a search for singer x5004 and it came right up. The equivalent on singers website is 14HD854. Some other reviews mentioned that they couldn’t find the manual or the machine on singers website but it’s for sure there. Anyway it works great, seems like it would work on thicker fabrics as well as thin ones. As with any serger it’s a pain to thread but it comes color coded and with the included tweezers it’s not terrible. Overall good for the price!
