I've started a larger scale project to create some stuffed animals of various kinds, including "memory critters" to pass on to my kids and grandkids once I pass on, crafted out of old T-shirts and other stuff that was part of my regular wardrobe at one time. This dragon pattern was the latest acquisition. I've only just gotten started, so cannot speak to end results yet. But the instructions are clear, the pattern pieces reasonably well printed (by all pattern standards), and they do offer three variations of the basic critter for you to choose from. And there is plenty you can do to customize yours with just a bit of imagination.Admitting that though I have been at this sewing thing for a while, I am still an utter newb as far as actual skills are concerned. This pattern suits me fine in that regard.Oh, and the "Sturdiness" rating thing? Pretty meaningless for a pattern, isn't it? :-) For any pattern I am going to make that does not consist of HUGE pieces, if I am going to use it more than once, I convert the flimsy pattern sheets to card stock pattern pieces with my scanner/printer first. I did that with this one. It took half an hour, but now I have a set of rather sturdy templates to use to make my own "thunder" of dragons. (Think "murder of crows", only with dragons. :-) ).Happy sewing, folks.

When I cut out the pattern pieces, I realized some of the pieces (tail end and legs) would be too small for my not so nimble fingers. I enlarged the pieces by 140% and made a mock up to test fitting. It actually came out pretty good and I am pleased with it. Looking forward to making the actual.

I bought this pattern for my daughter for Christmas because she is obsessed with dragons. She made it with only a little help from me and is not an advanced seamstress. When she makes it again we plan to add a pouch of beans to the belly so that it will have some weight when it sits on her shoulder. She made it out of polar fleece because she wanted it to be soft but the thick fabric made it very difficult to pull through the legs and the horns so that she ended up having to make some alterations to the pattern. I would say she did a great job and she definitely had a great time and loves the result.
