The side tape looks good and is sticky.Easy to use.But the tape has no sponge with it, so you can't expect it to protect your blade very much, it's more for decoration.It also cannot change the weight distribution of the blade(because there are no sponges), which can also be a good thing.(Side tapes with sponges don't really protect the blade well and doesn't weight much anyway. )

We purchased the thicker diameter tape for paddles that have 2.2mm foam/rubber. This tape is thick enough that it covers the wood and the foam. It falls just short of the rubber, which is about perfect. The tack on the tape is great. I have no doubt that it will last longer than the rubber and given the tack, could likely be used a couple times if necessary as rubber is changed out. I personally like the navy/silver color scheme. A little different/subdued compared to other options.
