Of the five steps in this adapter, none of them would quite fit the vacuum port on my band saw. Paring it with a knife made it barely possible. Really this would have been a better product if it was cone-shaped instead of stepped, so you could cut it to fit.

I learned last summer about using my shop vac exhaust to inflate kiddie pools, and I was instantly converted. Last year, I had a complicated setup using our electric pump attachments and some electric tape. It was sufficient, but annoying, and when we actually had to use the shop vac to vac our shop, I’d have to undo and redo the whole thing. Well, NOT ANYMORE! I just pop on this bad boy, and watch my inflatables grow. This also eliminates our need to use the weak, sad little electric pump for our air mattresses. I love this attachment.

To get this to work with my sander, I used a utility knife to cut off the first stage of this. It is a somewhat soft rubber material. It fits in the Craftsman hose on one side and the Ryobi exhaust on the other, but when elevated it slips out, so I used some duck tape to attach it to my random orbital sander, which turned out to be a great solution. When I used that sander without the vacuum attachment, I had rooms full of dust from sanding down trim. With the vacuum attached with this adapter, it is conceivable that you could get away without using a respirator if necessary (though I wouldn't recommend it). The amount of airborne sanding dust this eliminates is probably over 99%, and I don't wind up covered with a thin layer of dust. This is one of those low cost investments that you will truly appreciate, if you can figure out where to even look to solve the problem.

The price is nice and product overall is good. However there is a crucial problem that is not disclosed. The first/lowest opening is small which may fit some small power tools like my palm sander which this product fits well. Now lets think what you/I need to think about if say, like me, wishing to to fit the dust out port of a miter saw. That would mean I would need to cut off that small tube opening and the second one up in order to fit my miter saw. So what if you have several power tools that you wish to fit with a vacuum hose, I have 12 tools. SOooo, I would need to but 12 of these "universal tool adapters" Think about it, there must be a better way.

I had originally purchased this for my DEWALT D26451 Orbital Sander. I first was trying to figure out in what ways I could get it to fit so at first I was disappointed because the smallest end would not fit, but the larger end would fit, but then when the other end was hooked up to the hose it simply was too small to slide on the ShopVac, what I did find though was that on the small end, simply by cutting off a single tier to the adaptor that the next notch up fit my DeWalt with a slight bit of modification. I give it 4 stars because after I cut the small end off it does exactly what I need it to, I took away a star because I had to modify it, but other than that, this thing worked beautfully for what I needed it for... so If you have a DEWALT D26451, THIS WILL WORK, but you will need to cut the smallest tip off using a razor and trip up the inside of the cup and need to stretch it slightly and after that it just slips on like a glove. Since I purchased this exclusively for use with my D26451 modification was not a big deal and especially since the modification was a simple and easy 2-minute fix.

I have found this Shop-Vac universal adapter to be extremely handy and have several that I use all the time. I've trimmed some of them down to use with specific tools, but others I left full length. They will fit, or can be made to fit, the dust ports on several of my tools, including my Dewalt DW423 RO sander and Makita 9220 belt sander as well as the coupling on my 1" Porter Cable vac hose. I have one that is trimmed all the way down to the largest cuff and permanently attached to my Makita 2703 table saw dust port and another along with a 2" rubber Fernco connector that is permanently attached to my Delta 28-150 band saw so I can quickly connect my 2-1/2" Ridgid shop vac hose whenever I use them. These adapters are a little expensive for what they are, but have work well for my needs and really do seem to last. Some of mine are probably around ten years old now and have had heavy use, but are still fully functional, so I think they were well worth the expense.
