I didn't realize how much my old filter degraded until I switched to a new one. If your filter is more than a year or two old, don't hesitate to replace it. You won't be sorry.

I have a small form Shop Vac. And it uses these smaller filters. But, my local big box stores don't stock the small form filters in anything but "normal" filtering capability ....which have a tendency to pass a lot of dust and fine stuff such that you really ought to consider you respiratory health ...if you regularly use these basic filters ...especially indoors. These are HEPA filters, made by Shop Vac here in the USA. These filters will catch wallboard dust ...about the finest particles you'll run across in DIY stuff. In addition, you can clean these filters ...wash them ...and reuse them. These are the only filters I'll use in my Shop Vac.Very Important Point: The screw cap used to hold these filters onto the motor housing DOES NOT come as part of the replacement filter. If you throw away the screw cap, you'll be looking at buying a replacement cap. Which means ordering it online and waiting. The suction is great. Until they get clogged. Which doesn't take long because they're a lot more effective than lesser filters; they trap more stuff. So, unless you're running a dust cyclone with your vacuum (a really good idea), you'll be changing these filters a bit more often than the lesser filtering versions. Which is why you should score two of them.Because they're HEPA.

This filter works pretty well for construction and sanding dusts, ash, mouse droppings etc. Anything where you NEED a $50 filter for your safety. That being said, the reviews about this filter losing suction are definitely true. I imagine what happens is the layer between the filters or the filter media themselves fill up with extremely fine silt or dust. If you happen to get the filter wet in this clogged state I think the dust solidifies and becomes much harder to remove. I always cleaned my filters well, but after getting one damp one day and noticing it was working at about 10% efficiency I decided to compare filters, and the one that I had about 2 years was done.I'm getting another, as 2 years of safely cleaning up hazardous materials is well worth 50 dollars for me.

I’ve been using this on my Shop-Vac for the last few months without any problems. When I empty the Vac I brush off the filter and it’s good to go again. Plaster dust needs a little more attention to clean off.

Nice upgrade for my old shop vac. Fits snug, filters good (doesn’t blow a cloud of dust at startup like the paper filters, I can use it in the house now), and I’ve filled it full of dust/dirt maybe 6-8 times so far, and (per instructions) either tap the dirt out (in an empty trash can outdoors, dusty), and/or washed the dirt gently off the outside of the filter with water (much less dusty), and I’ve ‘cheated’ by using a soft, wet paintbrush to very carefully remove additional dirt while rinsing. I don’t get it perfectly clean, just mostly, and then let it dry and it’s ready to reuse. I can’t speak to long-term/heavy use, but for me it’s been worth it already.

This heppa filter is a good quality filter that can be used in shop vac that they will fit. These filters can be tapped clean and washed off with water. This is a good price. The quality of this filter is very good. The filter let's the shop vac work very well, while not restricting much airflow and wasting any power.

It's hard to say "I love" a shop-vac filter replacement, but I do think this product deserves 5 stars. I have neglected my shop-vac (that I got second-hand from a guy on Kijiji), and I expect the shop-vac has been neglected for a while before as well. When I started noticing that there was an odour coming out of the vacuum when I was using it, well, that's when I opened it up, dumped out the contents and then turned my attention to the filter. It was gross. The owner had improperly installed the dry paper filter underneath the foam filter (instead of over), and both were terribly clogged with saw-dust (I mostly use it for woodworking and dust management). This fits snugly on my shop-vac, and with the filter bags, the air coming out of the shop vac now is odourless. And cleaning is easy, I'm either tapping it or rinsing it, and after drying, it friction-fits right back into the shop vac. Clean-up and maintenance is way easier now.

I ordered this after cleaning out my Shop-Vac and seeing how deteriorated the original filter was. There was no way it could be cleaned and expected to perform at an acceptable level again. So I decided to make a cyclone separator to trap as much debris as possible before the vacuum and prevent the filter from getting clogged again. This way the new HEPA filter will only need to work on the really fine dust which it is specifically designed to. So far everything is working to plan and the minimal dust on the filter can be tapped off or a shot of air is enough to bring it back to original. I also like the treated surface that is slick so the dust doesn't stick and can be rinsed off and reused. So far it is too early to try that, but I believe it will perform as well as the other aspects of the design. Overall very impressed.

I normally get the blue filters, completely clog and wash them out once a week. Comparatively, this one is much easier to wash out as it has some sort of teflon-like coating. It doesn't look as terrible afterwards either. Been through three washes and still looks new, I usually get 6-8 out of the blue ones. Will update in a few months with my findings.7/1 - it's still looking pretty good, if a bit yellowish. Still works like new, has been washed weekly since arrival. The teflon coating is starting to peel and flake as of last week. Might be because I leave it in the sun to dry, I'm not sure. Will continue to use it until it can't perform, definitely got my money's worth out of it. Normally by week 6 on the blue ones I would notice a noise difference in the motor of my shop vac due to it having to work harder to pull air through the filter. I have not yet noticed it on this one.9/30/10 - Still using it, still washing it weekly, it'll probably need replaced in another month or so. The white coating is really taking a beating but has far outlasted the blue or white regular filters.
