The belt slides around by itself and worse when your sanding.Mickey mouse adjuster. Someone needs to get this belt adjuster updated!Very disappointed.I stayed away from the mickey mouse machines. POWERMATIC WAS to high of a price. This machine is between Power Maticand Fisher Price. I need to call up Grizzly the machine is I believe 2 months old and used twice!

I received the sander 1wk ago. Assembly was fairly easy. One of the bolts was bent (due to shipping damage) but no other issues...until I tried starting it. Ran about 5 seconds and tripped an isolated 20A circuit. Called customer service - no response until Monday. Service call Monday resulted in a running capacitor being shipped (UPS ground 🙁). Received parts Friday (the did send replacement bolt as well), installed new run capacitor and same result - blown breaker. Called customer service again - guy was nice but the best option available was to send a motor to replace the "broken" motor. That will take me about 3-4 hrs of disassembly and reassembly. That is what ShopFox (Grizzly) expects of their customers. I am sure issues with there product is not the norm but frustrated that they will not do more.I had to wait until the following Monday to speak with the customer service manager...That weekend, I tested the start capacitor and noticed that it was bad - not the run capacitor or the motor. After discussing that with the customer service person on Monday, they shipped a new one out over night :). I rewired the new start capacitor, turned it on and it worked as expected.I am glad it worked but I will not spend my time or money on Shop Fox (Grizzly) machines again. They are cheaper than the other guys but be prepared to invest some labor in the machine if it doesn't work. I would not recommend you purchase this product.

My Delta broke after 6 years and so I started looking for a replacement tool. After several weeks of reading reviews I chose this unit. The disk is great and gets the most use. I replaced the paper that came with the unit with 80 grit and tightened the bolt that holds the disk! It runs true. The belt works well but does not have a graphite pad under it so there is more friction. Adding a pad would be easy and is something I will do in the near future. The other issue is the dust ports are 2" and 2 1/2" and do not match the 4" connection on my system. I built a box with a 4" connector and two hoses to connect to the ports. A bit of work but it catches the dust well. Overall, a good tool at a good price.

I have read a number of reviews and even went and looked at one of these machines before I made my purchase. And having the unit for a while now I must agree with most of the reviews on key issues for the sander.First I must say its not a bad machine and I have been rather pleased with the unit. Though it is not a Powermatic, I didn't spend $1200 either, but I do feel its a decent value given the price, quality, and some shortcomings. Shop fox would do very well to make some of these minor improvements and really step up this machine to a better level.1. The tables are nice and large being made from cast iron. The table on the belt has a feature where the pivot bolts are loosened and the tilting knobs are removed, then the table simply lifts up, out, and off. However there is no positive stop for the 90 degree adjustment, so either trust the degree scale and/or check it with a square. The table can be removed for attaching the work stop fence for flat sanding. I have not tried the work stop fence, I have a drum sander for that operation.the table for the disc is also nice and large and made from cast iron. It had 2 sets of holes for the pivot, the manual shows a picture that might lead one to believe that the lower of the 2 should be used but I used the upper hole closer to the table surface, it matched the arc for the table tilt knobs. The manual also did not show using the lock nut on the back side of the cap screws used for the table pivot. I installed the cap screws to where the table could pivot and then used the locknuts to lock the cap screw in place. I think this was the intent and it is how I am using it. The table for the disc is not easily removed, but I can replace the paper on the disc without removing the table. This table too has no positive stops for 90 degree adjustment.Neither table has a T-slot, and this could be useful for attaching jigs and other accessories for operations such as circle sanding, etc. And it is nice that the belt and disc each have their own tables.2. The enclosed cabinet is indeed a waste of space so I left the back off, placed the unit on a mobile base and made a shelf for the bottom of the unit. I plan on making a small shelf unit to sit inside the base. And since it is on a mobile base the shelf keeps the sides in place and the unit is sturdy. I would not do this if the unit is to be free standing on the floor. The smaller Shop Fox w1676 sander has a door. A nice door and 2 shelves would really help this unit. The rubber feet are not adjustable but this has not been an issue as mine is on a mobile base.3. Dust collection is a must with a sander and lack of it is a health risk, not to mention its going to get messy. This sander can make a lot of saw dust and that means its working well. I must agree that the plastic dust hood on the belt and disc do indeed leave a lot to be desired. They seem flimsy but have not caused too much concern yet. It is odd that the disc uses a 2" hose and the belt uses a 2 1/2" hose. I am still working on a suitable setup for dust collection. I envision adapting up the disc hood to 2 1/2" right away and running both to a 4" quick couple hose connector. If the cabinet wasn't going to be used then Shop Fox could have ran hoses from both the belt and disc inside the cabinet and connected them to a Y and a 4 inch hose connector on the cabinet side much like a jointer would use.4. Belt tracking has not been an issue on my sander, but I can see where it could be problematic. Included in my little kit of parts was a screwdriver handle with a hole (figured out it was for the belt change lever) and a screwdriver with just a smooth rod (figured out it was for the belt tracking and tension bolt) Not mentioned in the manual but was entertaining to figure out what they were for. If the belt does track off it will cut the plastic dust hood to shreds in a short time. Though I have seen the metal ones get cut up too, its just much faster and less obvious when it happens with the plastic hood. This too is an area that could be improved with some minor tweaks in the engineering. The W1676 seems to have better user friendly tracking using a knob rather than tools. A metal guide or stop could be designed to protect the dust hood should the belt get off track.5. The on/off switch performs well but does seem to be a bit on the cheap side. I would have preferred a cabinet mounted switch with the more official looking green button red paddle switch. Though the W1676 has a cabinet mounted switch it uses the same on as this sander.6. Machine speed is 1725 RPM and this works very well. It allows a lot of control over the sanding rate and burns less than my other unit running at 3450 RPM. One interesting observation is the disc spins clockwise. I thought it would take some getting used to but it was not an issue. A friend of mine said isn't that normal? My Shopsmith spins that way.I like this sander and yes I would buy it again if I were in need of a sander. It does feel like this was a bench mounted sander that was stuck onto a quick cabinet design. I would encourage Shop Fox to consider making some improvements on this machine. It is a good machine and I do recommend it, but it gets 4 out of 5 for me right now.

The belt sander quit working on the first piece I tried to sand. I called the Tech Support who basically told me to either fix it and if I needed parts he would send them or I could, at my own expense crate it and ship it to a service center where it would be for three weeks before they could repair it. It took over four hours to take it apart and reassemble. The problem was two set screws not secured when manufactured. The Shop Fox Operations Manager told me that they can't inspect every unit that they receive from overseas. If they can't certify their vendors thne they better come up with a whole lot better Customer Support Approach. Should have known better than to buy another Grizzly / Shop Fox Product.
