Bought the Shimano 4000R spinning reel, delivery was quick and the reel seems to be very smooth. Would definitely buy again. Ordered the 2000R just hope it is as smooth.

The reel is exactly as described in the listing. It's an old school Shimano that is solidly built, works very smoothly once it's oiled up, with easy to reach rear drag adjustment. Casting was smooth with a nice balance enabling me to precisely cast where I intended to. Nothing fancy, just a solid reel that can land some big bass. Very happy with this purchase. If you zoom in on the attached picture, you can clearly see the Shimano reel. The bass was released safely back in the water after the picture. I catch and release all freshwater fish.

Removing the spool confused me but actually simple. Tighten the drag then turn spool counter clockwise. Great reel. I like the smooth bail operation. This is not a beginners reel, nor a cheap reel, it will last a long time and gets the job done. The price is amazing. Always loved Shimano.

Alright, buckle up, because this isn’t just another reel...it’s your new best friend by the water. The Shimano IX Rear Drag Freshwater Spinning Reel is here to make you look like a fishing pro, even if your experience consists of watching YouTube tutorials in between snacks. This reel’s smoother than your grandma’s dance moves at a wedding, and it’s built to haul in everything from that sneaky bass to that one fish who thinks it’s “too smart” for your bait.Let’s talk about smoothness, because that’s what you’re really after when you’re reeling in the big one, right? The drag system on this thing? Chef’s kiss. Whether you’re dragging in a fish or pretending like you know what you’re doing, the rear drag is like the world’s easiest to use control panel. You can adjust it without even looking, which is great because you’ll probably be too busy flexing your fishing muscles to care. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Yeah, but is it light enough for me to keep casting all day without feeling like I’m hauling a bag of rocks?” Oh, trust me. It’s lighter than your chances of catching a fish on the first cast, but don’t let that fool you, this reel is built like a tank. It’s tough enough to handle whatever crazy adventures you throw at it, from battling that monster bass to fishing in a boat you’re 99% sure isn’t going to sink (fingers crossed).PROS: • Smooth drag: This reel is so smooth, it could win a dance-off against Michael Jackson. • Rear drag system: You can adjust it with one hand while holding your fishing rod in the other, multitasking at its finest. • Lightweight: You won’t need a gym session after your fishing trip. Just fish, and flex those casting muscles. • Durable: Built to last: because fish don’t stand a chance against a reel this tough. • Perfect for freshwater: The Shimano IX is a freshwater champion. It’s like the Lebron James of lake fishing.CONS: • Not for saltwater: Unless you want to give it a one-way ticket to the grave, keep this baby away from the ocean. • Simple design: If you want a reel with 30 different dials that look like the cockpit of a fighter jet, this isn’t it. Sometimes, simple is better though, and that’s the Shimano way.In conclusion, if you’re looking for a reel that’s as reliable as your favorite pair of socks (the ones that never let you down), the Shimano IX Rear Drag Freshwater Spinning Reel is your ticket to fishing glory. Whether you’re chasing trophy fish or just trying to impress your friends, this reel’s got your back, and your line. So grab it, hit the water, and let the fish know they’re dealing with the fishing equivalent of Ryan Reynolds. Cue slow-motion heroic fishing cast.

Great inexpensive reel, I have used these for many years and love the trigger for the one handed release. The trigger is the main reason I purchase these reels.

The Shimano IX4000R is truly an excellent spinning reel for both fresh and saltwater fishing. I’ve owned these reels before and just purchased another, and I was so impressed that I immediately went ahead and ordered two of the smaller IX1000R models as well. This reel offers great value for the price, and it performs exceptionally well for anglers of all skill levels. The Quick Fire II technology allows for super easy, one-handed casting, which is perfect for beginners but also appreciated by seasoned anglers. The graphite construction keeps it lightweight yet durable, making it ideal for long fishing sessions without added fatigue. The 15 lbs max drag gives you plenty of stopping power for larger fish, and the 4.1:1 gear ratio ensures smooth cranking with each retrieve. What I love most is the self-centering line and trigger, which makes the entire casting and retrieving process seamless. It’s also reversible for both right and left-hand use, adding to its versatility. For anyone looking for a reliable, affordable, and high-performing reel, the Shimano IX4000R is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!
