Looks very skookum and well made, but the body diameter is large enough to collide with the compound rest on my 7x10 mini lathe. Thus, it's fine for larger parts but demands extra tool stick-out for smaller ones.

Exactly what I needed for barrel thread projects. Plenty of clearance with threading bit for 5/8×24, 9/16×24 ans JUST BARELY for 1/2×28. If I had a standard HCC 60° bit instead of insert holder style it wouldnt be so tight but also I have a larger 5/8 bit size tool post so that is part of it.The bearings are smooth and with the level machinist I am, this is just as good as any of the high prices onea from Grizzly or Smithy. Running a Smithy 1337L manual lathe.

So first impression is if they can't get some basic spelling correct on the package can they get 2 tenths right on the manufacturing? I know I can't spell too well and engineers aren't known for their language skills but it doesn't set an already low bar.Anyhow, if it is an ACTUAL Shars product I have used them before and they are sufficient for their intended use at exceptional prices. They are rhe harbor freight of machining.Time will tell.

You get what you pay for. I get that. I did expect some run out and at the minimum smooth turning bearings. Ill probably tear this apart and see what the issue is. Will report later.

Runout was about 0.0001" for my sample that I got. Very good.

I like Shars a lot. the shipping is fast but not cheap on their website, so If I can find them on here I know I am getting a quality project fast and free.I bought a bigger lathe and spent 500 on shars for various adapters and tool holders that I needed right away. shipped for like 30. I forgot this item.I had the mt2 version on my last lathe. I have had this one for some time now. I cannot tell you enough how rigid and true it runs. The new lathe came with a live center but this one is so much better.

The 3MT fits really nice. I checked the fit by bluing the inside of my tailstock spindle, and a nice even blue pattern transferred to the live center taper. The nose bearings turn nice and smooth as well. For the price, I was pretty surprised at how well it works. The nose seems to be hardened well since there were no markings or indentations left after turning hardened steel parts.

When using a live center on a lathe, the space between the end of the work is often reduced unfavorably. This long nose live center give a little extra room to work. For me, it did not disappoint. I run a 7x16 LMS 5100 Mini-Lathe that uses short MT2 in the tailstock. I was happy I did not have to cut down the taper to make it work with my setup.Pros:- High-quality feel, no loose parts or rattles.- Short Morse Taper 2 fit perfectly in my mini-lathe. Did not slip, but ejects easily when needed.- Smooth bearings spin well. No grittiness or sticking.- 60 degree tip is VERY sharp and ground true.- Included “Inspection Report” in box.- Well-packed in retail box.Cons:- Slight marking left on circumference of nose after first use with brass rod.- Unsure of long-term durability or longevity.Final verdict: For the price you can’t go wrong. Though made in China, Shars is well-known and sells decent products. For some lathe operations, having that extra half inch to work with makes all the difference. (I included a picture of my standard live center with shorter nose for comparison.) Knurling, turning to the end, or external end threading are a little easier now.
