Ordered an r-8 collet 7/8 diameter. For some reason the collet has a counterbore which limits the end mill shank to only slide up in the collet less than 13/16 where it bottoms out. WHY??? Nothing is mentioned whatsoever of these collets only having a usable depth of 13/16. I’ll learn one of these days not to order this Chinese junk. Collet they sent before this, the keyway was only machined halfway down which rendered it useless.

No complaints, fits my spindle and holds stock straight. Works well for the money.

I bought this for an upcoming job. Looks nice, but I haven't used it yet. I'm being badgered by Amazon to leave a review, here it is.

I bought this collet to replace one from a major seller that arrived not new, rusty, and with the threads tapped off center. This one is priced well, and has none of the above issues. I recommend Shars.

Not all Chinese products are equal. This one is superior. The collet arrived well oiled and sealed in a plastic wrapper inside the plastic container. The finish was flawless. There were no sharp edges from the saw slits to cut my fingers. A 1/8" gage pin glided into the bore with light finger pressure as it should. And the best part: TIR measured only 0.0002"!I will look to SHAR tools for future purchases.

I like Shars stuff. It generally seems to be very good for reasonably priced mostly import products. This one...it's a weird product, because 1 inch is really too large to fit in an r-8 collet. It just doesn't fit, so, in order to do it, the jaws are extended past the conical area. This means that they are cantilevered, and they really aren't thick and strong enough to clamp tightly. I got some 1 inch shank endmills cheap, so I bought this to be able to use them in my Bridgeport. To use a one inch endmill would normally create some high forces. I don't trust this collet to do that, so only use it for light cuts, sort of defeating the purpose of a large cutter. I do like having it, and bought it expecting that this might be a problem. Keep in mind that an end mill might not just flex or have a bit of runout....the flexing of the extended part of the collet could make the ID become conical, which could result in the endmill moving out, axially, which could cause a sudden unexpected increase in depth of cut, which ....use your imagination. It could be a big problem. Use carefully!
