I bought this to regrind pin od under size. It fits between the narrow pins. Easy to read the yellow face. Seems good so far. Was able to dial pins in under .001

I'm very happy with this test indicator, it's well made, easy to read, and comes in a fitted case with a certificate.

Ive purchased three different Shars brand indicators and they’re a tremendous value for any machinist.

I bought one of these for evening adult machinist school. I showed it to my instructor. He commented that the edges of the dovetails are not well defined & are aluminum, which indicates a lower grade tool. However, he mentioned that he orders Shars tools, & they are fine for what we are using them for. However, he is doubtful of the longevity of these test indicators. (He recommended notching out my foam material in the case & leaving on the mounting barrel on, so, as not to chew up the dovetails by constantly tightening/loosening it.) I like the yellow stripe on the one side of the gage. When you switch sides to location reference (zero) the other side of the Y-Axis, this helps you see which is the fall-off & peak angular side of the gage. (Remember, you are looking at it backwards with a mirror.) This eliminates mistakes. Overall, it's a decent "bang for the buck" test indicator. If it gets me through machining school & out into industry for a few months, I'll upgrade to a better unit (SPI or Starrett), then. I would buy this unit, again.

What a nice piece. First impressions count and this one does it! It's the little things... First off the case, while plastic has proper hinges, it's not paper thin and has a nice positive latch! Next is a serial number sign off piece of paper that matches the number stamped on the indicator. Now if they recycle the same number remains to be seen, but mine is 8701652 so let's see what you get. Both mounts (brass tipped) come wrapped in pink protective paper and a little wrench comes in the box. For WHAT who knows, they did not supply any different size stylus. ??? Maybe I got short changed. Will contact seller regarding this. There is a hole in the foam for them. Next up, this thing has some gravity to her! This is usually a sign of quality. The stylus sweeps very smoothly and there is no notchiness to it whatsoever! The yellow highlight is not as bright in real life, but it's still easy to read. So far, it seems like a quality instrument and I expect it to pass my cal shop with ease. Let's see what discount machine shop says about the missing stylus tips. (Edited: Talked to the folks at Shars, it does not come with a couple of styus', you get the wrench but no spares or different size balls. Disappointing really, they cheaped out over 5cents. I would have gladly paid another buck. :-/
